You can only have a little chuckle at the Rangers and Celtic boards today. I mean, look at the âPlastic Celtic Fansâ who are giving it the biggest licks. Iâll take the baws from fellow Jocks, but not from these imbeciles who are not even from Scotland. First up, the very owner of the site; a self-confessed, Irish Republican who (no **** Sherlock) was born in Belfast. A city which he claims is Irish and has no connection whatsoever to Britain. So why is he such a fervent supporter of a SCOTTISH football team? Why doesnât he focus all his enthusiasm on a team from his OWN country? Hmmm, doesnât really take much working out as to why, does it? I was (very briefly) thinking about whom to comment on next, but in sticking with my âPlastic Celtic Fanâ angle, there can be no other to comment on than Irish âMegabucks Lottery Winnerâ Green. Again, another peasant who claims to be some sort of staunch, Irish Republican but who has never shown the same degree of support to a football team from his own country, which he does for a team who come from Scotland. Why is that exactly? Next up, Ciaran; the wannabe IRA-hardman, from The Ardoyne. Guess which country thatâs in; yep, you got it, over the water in a place which he proudly calls Ireland. The question is, where exactly in Ireland do Celtic play football? Oops, thatâs right, they donât , they play in SCOTLAND. So why does someone with absolutely no connection to Scotland throw all his fanaticism behind a team from there and not a team from his OWN COUNTRY? Strange, donât you think? Finally (and perhaps the funniest), we have WeebleBhoy; quite possibly the biggest bigot on these boards. Now this one is a cracker. Here we have someone who was born in London, who now lives (or so he says he does) in Cork, yet supports a team from Scotland?! So the first (and most obvious) question is, why doesnât he support an English team? The second question is why (given all his big licks on here about being the uber-Irish Republican) doesnât he give a team from Ireland such fanatical support as he does to their country and all the associated politics? Finally, (and again, another obvious question) why on earth does he support a team from Scotland?! What the **** does an Englishman, who lives in Ireland, have in connection with Scotland?! So in summary, why do 4, self-confessed, staunch, Irish Republicans, who have absolutely no connection whatsoever with Scotland, support a team from there above a team from their own country? Would any of you Englishmen out there support a team from Scotland?! I very much doubt it. Letâs face it, we all know why they âsupportâ Celtic⦠Cue the beel and the deflection...
Very well put. I "support" Berwick Rangers in Scotland because I am, and they are, English. If I came from a sporting-backwater such as the Republic of Ireland and I fancied watching high-level sport then I might grow to follow follow a team in a major league such as Man Utd, Barcelona or Hitchin Town.
Well yes I am Irish and I am a Republican, in that I don't support Monarchy as a form of government. I believe Belfast is in Ireland and could easily be described as Irish - I believe that Belfast is also in Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - it's therefore the part of Ireland which remains in a Union with Great Britain. Do I believe that Belfast has nothing at all to do with Britain, did I ever say this? Well no, absolutely not - politically, half of the population of Belfast consider themselves British and have the legal authority to do so. Northern Ireland is a self administrating part of the United Kingdom, which bestows the citizens the optional nationality of being British or Irish - but if I was to describe myself off the cuff it would be Irish and United Kingdomish - since I'm not really from a family known to have emigrated from the island of Britain but I was born in part of Ireland which is also part of the United Kingdom. I have no issues with people who historically migrated from Britain to Ireland describing themselves as British - just like I have no issue with Irish people who migrated to Scotland still consider themselves Irish. Does that clarify Nationality? As to the point that I am a Celtic supporter yet was born somewhat geographically distant from Glasgow (which also happens to be in the United Kingdom, and I am United Kingdomish after all) - I never really chose Celtic, one of my earliest memories was on top of my dad's shoulders at Parkhead. I don't struggle with this at all, I like many things from many different geographical locations - my favourite food is Italian, the place I've most enjoyed living is Malta, the place I've most enjoyed visiting is India, my best friend is from England, the favourite politician of my own lifetime is probably Tony Benn - and my favourite football team is Glasgow Celtic. So, BH... you have some weird inward looking issues with this - I guess you are just uncomfortable that the biggest football team in Scotland has so many Irish supporters (as well as Irish people who were born in Scotland who follow us, the same way those British people born in Ireland follow Rangers) - I believe the reason this annoys you so much is you have some deeply ugly and twisted prejudices which are derived from being a broken and frankly stupid person.
Oh, Mick. You tried with the histrionics, the diatribe and finally...the bull****. But all in all, you have absolutely scored a Grade "F" Why don't you give as much support to a team from your OWN COUNTRY as you do to one from a foreign country?
Oh and Ben? For the record, you'll take it off whoever's giving it out, you little bitch. Up the 'RA.
Ive never thought of it this way, I`m glad BH has looked into it thouroughly and come up with the only logical conclusion available. Why dont you kiddie-on, plastic paddy, sleekit kaflik sellic supporters get your dirty paws off of my beloved multi-national yet quintessentially scottish team and get one of your own... I hear there might be one going cheap who could do with some rebranding.
Please, Eduardo, don't confuse mocking with obsession. I think this is what the typical Taig comment is when we question the similar obsession Celtic "fans" have with Rangers? My pleasure, Eduardo, my pleasure
But anyway, dear deflectors, just why do Irish born and (in)bred people support a football team who are Scottish and who play in Scotland? I mean, can you see someone who was born in say...Norwich, supporting...Motherwell? No more bawbaggery, just an honest answer...if you don't mind Cheers.
They support Celtic coz they're an all inclusive club with a proud charitable history. Not built On sectarian and racist undertones like the dead rangers.
Rangers wasn't built on sectarian or racist undertones ya cow. Rangers was founded much earlier before the protestant/catholic thang, besides if anything it was celtics fault for being built by catholics and associating themselves with them <racist/sectariangrinbyskinhead>
He was only 7 when he took on the RA single handedly. His memories may be muddled with all the turps he drinks so don't expect too much
You're clearly drugged to the eyeballs and seeing moonbeams. Oops. Rangers are dead, get over it and start supporting Alloa.
