The season's about to start, so I reckon this is topical (at least to ex-pats):

Free football streaming: how illegal sites keep outpacing broadcasters
As this weekend’s Community Shield heralds a new Premier League season, more people than ever will be watching it online – without paying a penny. Is this plain old piracy, or just priced-out fans taking sport back from big business? And is there any way to stop it?

Once the signal is out into the ether it's fair game for anyone with the nous to catch it (and it doesn't take a lot) - there's no stopping it, not ever. Freebies have come a long from the days of Napster.
