Realise that it's not a Pompey subject but some players on the planet transcend allegiance. Javier Zanetti at the age of 40 bowed out for Inter Milan tonight. He won everything there was to win with Inter and was a truly exemplary professional and by all accounts a decent man off the pitch as well. He was the type of player who did enormous amounts of unseen work and was a classy tackler and passer of the ball. Very much like another legend of the San Siro but from the Red half of Milan, Maldini, Serie A and indeed football will miss him. World class is a term too often bandied about......in this case not - as much for his football as for his persona.
