last game fittingly at home for Matt ..THANKS FOR YOUR HONEST approach and help, in the league and cup I wish you well
A Leeds fan that I play 5-a-side with said he was awful when we signed him. Now, he still says he's awful but can't explain his goal tally. I guess that proves that a player can be sh1t at one club but bang them in for another. A bit like managers - it works at one club but not the other (ie SOD) Smith really fitted in here. I wonder if he will feature later........
Without Smith's contribution and vital goals I doubt very much if we would still be top of L1 or in the Paint Pot Trophy Final Good on you mate, thanks for the sterling effort and all the best for wherever your future lies.
lets hope he has bite tonight City, 2 crocks, heading for disaster, Called on Matt Smith to be the master In guiding us with scoring prowess Kept us out of a potential mess Whilst top of the league we may well be it's his goals that have took us to Wembelleee Just 2 more games he has to play Before sorry, bye Matt, he goes on his way All city fans will wish him the best As the team now has to meet the test Without you Matt we hope to keep winning Lest the title and promo leave us spinning
SC indicated he wanted a tall target man to dominate the box, he got him, pity we still don't have him
Panic not. Wills was immense tonight, but must be careful not to get involved in some nonsense which will get him and, consequently, the team into trouble. But on tonight's performance 'he is back
We have a loaned player, Matt Smith, Some fans said "He wont get a sniff", But he wore City's shirt, Defences got hurt, With his goals we'll be way above fith. Struggled with the last line
There once was a striker called Matt Who everyone thought was a pratt Then along came our man from the Gate Who believed that Matt was just absolutely great And now he is more popular than Take That Boom boom
There once was a manager named O'Driscol Who's radio interviews were plain dismal, Sorry...I fell asleep then
Fair play to Matt Smith and to Cotts Matt Smith is hoping to deliver a farewell present to the City fans as he prepares to bow out of Ashton Gate The big striker has proved a towering presence in more ways than one since arriving on loan from Fulham at the end of November, chalking up 13 goals in 20 appearances. Now he wants one more for the collection as a parting gift to the club he says will still be a part of him for the remainder of the season. “That’s the aim – to sign off with a good performance and hopefully a goal or two. That would be fantastic if it happens,” Smith told Bristol City Player ahead of the visit of Rochdale to Ashton Gate. “I came in after a couple of months without any game time and a bit dejected from that point of view, but in the three months here I’ve got my sharpness back and the confidence from scoring plenty of goals. “Part of me will still feel like a Bristol City player having been so heavily involved for the past few months, so obviously after my games I’ll still be keeping an eye out for the results. “When I joined we were top of the league and we still will be when I leave. It’s a great feeling and hopefully the lads can finish off the job now.” So highly valued has been the contribution of Smith that manager Steve Cotterill wants him to join up with the squad again for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final against Walsall at Wembley on March 22nd. It hardly seems a big enough prize having scored all five of City’s goals over the two-legged area final with Gillingham, but it is an offer the 25-year-old is delighted to accept after FIFA rules dictated his loan could not be extended beyond 93 days. “It’s a very tight-knit group and the team spirit is second to none,” Smith added. “I feel a big part of it and credit to the boys for making me feel that way. “It’s a lovely gesture from the manager to invite me for the day and I’ll be happy to join the squad, obviously with the permission of Fulham, and I look forward to what will hopefully be a good day out.”
one has to hope he goes back to Fulham gets a few minutes of game time each game! does not score and happily signs a transfer or a season long loan with no recall!
As I've put elsewhere I'm not sure whether we would (or should) play to a big target man in the Championship, assuming we go up If we do, we might be a bit predictable and other teams might find us easy to counter ?
