This comment was aimed elsewhere club wise but it got me thinking that it pretty much sums up the whole debate on Mitrovic.
tbf its only you boys that has their opinion divided (club loyalites? ). Everyone else think he's a pretty handy striker
Its only the ones with their tongue's so far up Rafa's arse that can't see he's made an error letting him go (and Mbemba - Merino I'll let slide as he wanted to leave). FFS Mitro has outscored ALL of our strikers since Ba and Cisse were playing in his one season (at 21) in the EPl - now 4 in 4 and will outscore them again but our fans are comparing Joselu to Salah...
Does it? Only if you think Mitrovic is bang average. I think he's a bit better than that. I disagree its a mistake to sell him though. He would only have been worth keeping if Rafa wasn't here. Regardless he is the past now and we move on.
In the interest of fairness, can we also have some final words for Ferreyra, Doumbia, De Jong, Martins, Ba and Armstrong? We do seem pathetically obsessed with Mitrovic. I reckon it's purely because he's got quite a cool name. Lord knows it's got **** all to do with his footballing ability.
To be fair he is currently making the naysayers look really silly. I just don't see the point in worrying about what he's doing. Yeah he looks really good now given the opportunity and it looks like we failed to make the best of him. It looks like it will turn out to be an error. Facts are though he has gone and isn't of any relevance now.
There's no divide on the fact that both are good players. Nobody is seriously arguing that either of them are sh!te. I think the original post is bang on - hence why there is so much disagreement over Mitro (I was firmly behind the mad Serb, but now he's gone he's gone. IRWT). The only slight flaw in the argument is that our current transfer policy does not encompass the full scope of players from 'Good' to 'Joselu'. Bang average might be the best we can do these days - hence why some fans are upset at us letting a player go who divides opinion as much as Mitro. Replacing him with a 'Good' player is simply not an option when we are expected to make a profit in the transfer market. Sometimes you have to move a player on - because they don't get on with the manager, are bad for discipline, don't fit the system, or don't want to stay. That doesn't mean they can't do a job somewhere else - but similarly, the fact they can do that job somewhere else doesn't mean they could have done the same at your club, or that the manager is to blame. By definition if you're being forced to consistently make a profit on transfers, then when you move a player on, you have to replace him with a less expensive player. That means the quality of your squad will reduce over time, and you'll be left with a gifted manager being asked to work more and more miracles every season, until, eventually, he can't. Then he will be replaced with someone cheaper. *That* is what we should be getting angry about - not about the fact we moved a player on and he's done well elsewhere. That's just football.
Mitro for me is a good player with potential. He’s better than Joselu and Rondon and should have been played by Rafa. Thing is he wasn’t played and he’s now been sold. He ain’t coming back. End of story.
In Rafa We Trust ?? ................. or Irritating Red & White Twats ............... which would make little sense here but is still accurate!!!
Fine: Ferreya - never played. Was he actually a real person? Doumbia - made 3 sub appearances, and looked like a 74 year old man hobbling around on a zimmer frame De Jong - one couldn't score for ****, and the other broke his back every time he tried to tie his shoe Martins - another of dubious reported age, was clearly 42 when he was playing for us Ba - I think Colo had the final word with him when he kicked his nose apart Armstrong - one of our few youth players who doesn't end up at Bedlington Terriers or Jarrow Roofing, but still ain't good enough for the first team Mitrovic does have a pretty cool name to be fair, and you can abbreviate it to the awesome nickname of Mitro. But Rafa don't like him and he's gone, end of.
