There may only have been three Singapore Grands Prix, but all of these have been incident-packed, controversial and have produced some unusual results. Take last year’s race, it was a glimpse into the future for Lewis Hamilton, as he got involved in a reckless battle with Mark Webber that left him out of the race and essentially out of the championship hunt. And, of course, the events of 2008, where Nelson Piquet Jr. was ordered to crash his car to help team mate Fernando Alonso achieve victory. Yes, the longest race on the calendar (timewise) and one of the most demanding has produced a number of interesting statistics in its very short F1 history. Here are just some of them:

    - Fernando Alonso has finished on the podium in all three Singapore races, despite the 2009 Renault being a rather terrible car

    - Williams have always gone well on this circuit. Nico Rosberg’s 2nd place in 2008 is their most recent podium finish, and he also showed promise in 2009 before he clumsily crossed the white-line exiting the pits and was given a penalty. Last year Rubens Barrichello finished 6th for the team

    - Jenson Button seems to struggle at this track, with his current best finish being just 4th.

    - Timo Glock’s most recent podium also came at this track, with a surprising 2nd place in 2009.

    - There has been 10 accident related retirements in the three Singapore Grands Prix to date.

    - Remarkably, given Red Bull’s domination of qualifying in recent years, there’s never been one on pole at Singapore. Although that may change this year!

-Before 2010, Ferrari hadn’t scored a single point at the venue. However, Alonso’s win last year well and truly changed this statistic.

There have been countless other memorable incidents in Singapore Grands Prix. There was Heikki Kovalainen’s dramatic engine fire last year, and Felipe Massa’s release from the pits with the fuel hose still attached in 2008. There seems to be something about the Singapore race that creates incredible amounts of action. Given how exciting the races have been this year, surely this is set to continue.
