I've just been told a very disturbing rumour.
It apparently comes from someone who plays golf with Charlie Austin's dad who said that Charlie has turned down 68k a week and is off to Liverpool in January.

I have no way of knowing if it's true but we would be right in the **** if it is!

No way, maybe the end of the season but we'd be guaranteeing relegation if we did let him go in January, TF would need to play hardball unless it was £30 million plus...

Getting relegated would cost a lot more than £30m. It would be madness to let him go in January.

Every player has their price, none of us want him to go but if Liverpool are so desperate they'd offer silly money then who knows? I'm sure we'll keep him but a lot will depend on Charlie himself...

True or not, we wouldn't let him go in January regardless of what he wants. But if he does fancy himself as a big time Charlie then so be it, we've learned that there's no point trying to hang on to players anymore, you just let them go and move on.

Perhaps we'll get Balotelli, Lambert or, even better, Borini in part exchange. In addition to Defoe. Super.

    Worse things happen at sea.

I know a lot of things are talked about on the golf course but I really can't imagine that sort of information being given out, knowing how things get out into the big wide world in a matter of seconds via t'internet......

Bet he won't be playing golf with Charlie's father any more......

He's ours under contract so unless it is a silly money offer that would cover an equivalent or better striker plus one or two of our planned additions then we must say no.

If his mind is already made up then he can go next Summer but it's easy enough to explain to him how important he is to our season so am sure he'd understand (even begrudgingly) and he's the type that would always do his best wherever he is (even if he's feeling put out).

Providing you get what they're worth.

Young English striker scores goals time to run on contract and unlike United with Welbeck we are reluctant sellers plus Charlie is already one goal away from equalling Welbecks highest tally for league goals in a season!!... 30 million plus Lambert would be tempting

Lambert probably wouldn't come tho. Without throwing Lambert into any deal tho I really can't see how we can let him go till the summer

Is worrying if he doesn't sign up to a contract soon tho. Say 40k pay rise over a 9 month period if he doesn't go till august means he misses out on £1.4m in wages so he must be confident or mad

We should match any pay offer to guarantee him staying, he's automatic 1st choice here, he won't be at Liverpool or any other big club...

Why would he want to leave a potential mid-table club in London for a mid-table club up north?

Perhaps the money isn't the only thing. Perhaps he wants a different stage, sick of the soul destroying experience of playing for QPR away. Did you hear about the "why do I ****ing bother" comment at Swansea (sorry, forgot who posted it, but 100% verified). Perhaps he thinks Rednapp and Jordan aren't going to help him improve as a player.

    Perhaps its all bollocks.

I can believe it. Austins Dad and Arry are good mates.

If it is true for once we have got to get really good money for him. The way we play at home I think any new half decent striker will score a few..... Lets face it his goal yday was laid on a plate

So was Ings shot in the second half on the far post...and Ings missed it
It takes quite a lot of ability to score (on a plate" goals consistently

You've just heard it. Shouted it when yet another attacking move broke down after he'd run into space.
