It's easy to say he's rubbish and then name a better potential manager that you want. I know people have come up with sound reasons as to why Bruce won't work, So I propose you rate him against recent SAFC managers and who if any of those managers you'd bring back in place of him. Clearly this is hypothetical but I think it's a decent indicator of where Bruce lies...... Keano - I think most would take Bruce now Sbragia - Clearly Bruce Mick Macarthy - tricky one this one, I'd suggest a good number of Sunderland fans would go with Mick? Where would you place him against Reid? Even under Reid we had post christmas slumps. Would you take any of the mags last 5 managers before him?
I'll always have a soft spot for Reidy. He without doubt gave me my best times at the SOL. Lost the plot towards the end. I remember for me his "JFK" moment. I was driving down South after a home visit. I was just approaching Leeds and all was well till the sports news kicked in. "Sunderland except bid for Don Hutchinson"... Beginning of the end that was.
Why don't we rate managers in the EPL by their ability to eat meat pies. We have the best manager in the league by this scale. Or maybe their resemblance to a Walrus. Again, we nail it. Bruce in! Cyprus, That was the beginning of the end Hutch going, and well we knew it.
Now here is a perfect example of how I regard as a decent poster can have a different opinion to me. I regard Peter Reid as nothing short of a criminal, who with the help of an agent, fleeced our club for every penny we had and more. Does this mean I will start calling Cyprusmackem all the names under the Sun..Of course I wouldn't call the ****entwatengodforsackensunofa cameltwat anything that I thought he may find offensive! Only kidding marra..
I quite liked Mick Mcarthy, he managed to get us promoted with a ****e team. Who know's what would of happened if he had been given more than 50p to build a team.
I met him a couple of times, and he came across as a bloke who knew what he was talking about... I reckon he could have been great for us in the long-term if fans could have had a bit more patience: ring any bells?
