The 17th of April 2001, twelve years ago, was a strange day. First up we were crowned First Division Champions following a match at the Cottage against Sheffield Wednesday. Welcome to this potentially historic day, David Hamilton boomed over the PA system. The last time Fulham had won promotion to the top flight, he told the fans, it was Easter too and the opposition was Sheffield Wednesday back in 1959. But we were made to wait until stoppage time at the end of 90 frustrating minutes before securing the point needed to clinch the title. Trailing 1-0 and with time and patience running out, Fulham launched one last desperate attack unsung midfielder Sean Davis, a product of the club's academy, smashed a right-foot shot past Kevin Pressman in the Sheffield Wednesday goal from 15 yards. And sent Craven Cottage into a frenzy of celebration. please log in to view this image The day was tinged with sadness though. The death of Alec Stock, the man who led Fulham to their FA Cup final appearance in 1975, was announced. please log in to view this image And the Fulham Crest was also last seen in this Championship winning season (transformed for commercial reasons into the badge we know today). please log in to view this image
