No idea if it's true that Ade wants out, but he's likely to be unhappy with the current situation.

In defence of AVB, JD has done well in the lone striker role, far better than I expected him to.

Can we play both Ade and JD? It was an option I thought viable yesterday, IF Ade is match fit.

And you have to wonder if he isn't, why isn't he? He played a full game for Togo last week and scored, IIRC. He then had training during this week.

Dealing with the Ade question is going to be a big one over the next week. I hope he starts v Maribor, and I'd leave Dempsey at home, I think he's done too much travelling recently. I thought he might be tired after his US games, and he played like he did. Clint has also hinted very heavily that he prefers to play alongside Adebayor rather than lone man JD.

Lots of questions as always for the manager.

Maybe we are seeing AVB's questionable tactics coming out. He was a bit unpredictable at Chelsea with his decisions. It's a puzzler. Let's see how the next few games pan out.

  3. These reports are total b***ocks and full of inaccuracies/exaggerations. Repeating these rumours only gives them credibility they don't deserve.
Ade wants to play? No ****, Sherlock
Defoe is a different player to Ade? Really? Would never have guessed......

There are 'sources' out there keen to derail our club and especially AVB. Let's not assist them, shall we?

The knives are back out for Villas Boas now he's lost another game. It was always going to happen just pay it no notice the Sun have already shown their Spurs rumours from "sources" are totally inaccurate at best and probably just made up. I'd pay no attention to it if I were you and that Goal article in particular is written by a total prick.

Yep, some fair comments here. I'm not paying too much attention to the 'Ade wants out' stories.

However, there definitely is a problem brewing IF Ade and JD can't play together, either will be unhappy about not playing I would have thought, especially in massive games like yesterday.

I think they can, but if they can't my instinct is always to play Ade rather than JD, but JD is doing well, it's a real conundrum, good luck to AVB on that one.

I'm sure some of the media do have it in for AVB, but even if they don't they won't ignore player unrest, IF it is there.

Most managers have to deal with such issues, I'm sure quite a few were unhappy at being dropped/ignored by Harry for example.

Players are selfish, they want what's good for them rather than good for the team. But AVB has to think of the club first too. It's damaging to put his own ego before the good of the team. Now I'm not saying that's what he's doing but a manager must make his presence felt and show the players who's the boss but also be effective for the team. A personality clash is no use to anybody or a power struggle.

Fair comments TMT, but as you say players tend to be selfish, and that's no massive crticism of them, it's part of their drive to the top in many cases.

Both JD and Ade want to play, both will be unhappy if they miss big games like yesterday. I think they can play together, but if AVB doesn't then he'll have a difficult job dealing with the situation. It's part of his job to deal with such things, and I'm not criticisng him over this one, as I think it's a tough call.

A lot of this comes down to our transfer modus operandi as well, get Lloris and Ade in pre-season, surely they both start at Toon and we have a whole different dynamic. Still wouldn't be problem-free, but the problems would be different, probably.

I still don't trust Defoe to maintain this goal scoring form though. He blows very hot and very cold.

Like most have said, I don't think there's much truth in Ade 'wanting to leave'. How long has be been fit for - like 2 weeks?

I will say that I would like to see him start instead of Defoe, whom I'm tired of seeing shooting from anywhere just to see it be blocked by a defender. I remember Ade putting in a couple of good headers and contributing whilst he was on yesterday.

On the other hand, maybe Defoe is training well and putting in the effort in to keep his place.

I don't get these articles - he's been ****ing injured for most of the season and he's only just coming back to full fitness.

If it is true then he can foxtrot oscar.

He needs to rotate Ade and Defoe so that both are sharp if needed. I'd have picked Ade yesterday if fit, but Defoe did all right I thought so not sure it would have made much difference

The whole of football wondered why we took AVB as our manager (me included)

Everyone in the media wants him to fail at spurs cos they all love Redknapp.

Spurs are playing some good football.

Spurs have been without BAE and Kaboul and Parker all season and AVB has not whined about it.

Adebayor has a reputation for being awkward.

Lazy journalists tend to write crap.

both articles are are shockingly bad ... Adebayor has not had a chance for over 2 months (he was injured for most of that time) <doh>

Don't you guys get it, now they've written that article they can push the point further if he doesn't play Adebayor in the next game or they can attack AVB for dropping Defoe if he does that. It's all about catching hold of a thread of a non-story from last week and setting out the fuse so they can light it, whatever happens, after the next game. The truth be damned.

The stuff about Ade wanting to leave may be nonsense, but I can almost guarantee that he was majorily pissed off to be benched.

AVB has already called it wrong over Lloris, and I also think, but I'm not so sure, over Ade, maybe Maribor will tell us more.

Ade is Top of the Gobs today saying that he wants out or at least it's The Sun that's saying so. I felt before the season started that there might be a problem with AVB and ADE and I sincerely hope it's all gobby and no truth in it. I don't totally rate him but he would be hard to replace at the moment given our problems in the market signing marquee strikers.

Especially given how much (by our standards) we are paying him.

I'd think that he'll be playing against Maribor along with Lloris on Thursday. I'm certain that AVB doesn't want player problems given what happened in his short spell at Chelsea. He went scoreless for 7 or 8 matches last season and most of his goals were tap ins or headers from 2 yards out. I don't really think that he should have such a high opinion of himself. My apologies if that has upset his most ardent fans on the site.

Until I hear him say something along these lines, I won't just accept them as true. Surely long term there are many game for him - sometimes with Defoe I think. One of his last tweets was in response to a Spurs fan saying he will struggle to displace JD (or knock him out the team as the fan put it) and his response was perfect

Well that totally contradicts my thoughts or what I thought he was thinking doesn't it? I didn't see that tweet. Oh hell, let's just wait and see.
