Based on win percentages, Fred Stringer was City's most successful manager with 51.16% between 1914 and 1916. I bet they didn't have many players to choose from.

Using the same measure, who was our second most successful manager?

By the same measure, Iain Dowie was statistically our second worst manager, with a win percentage of 11.11%, albeit at a bad time and for a short spell, but who was our worst?

If anyone feels the need to peep, the stats are from here >> https://www.managerstats.co.uk/clubs/hull-city/

I'd guess Raich Carter and Jan Molby respectively ?

Good guesses, but Jan was marginally better than Dowie, with 11.76% and Raich was just below the best with a very creditable 46.84%, which if I've counted right puts him 4th.

I've seen this question before and if I'm correct it's the same manager who holds both ?

    It is. <ok>

I was actually looking for something else, and found that interesting in a heroes and villains type way.

That has to be impossible - presumably they did more than 1 stint as manager. If so, their results should be combined and assessed that way no ?

It's interesting to note that worst manager still managed more achievement during that reign than others with much higher win percentages.

It's a fair argument in some respects, but the game changes, so it has to be per term at the helm, I suppose.

I might buy that if there was 20 years between the different terms, or incredibly radical changes in playing staff if it was a short period between tenures ?
Who was it by the way ? And when ?

Good point. When/if someone gets the correct answer(s), or you eventually post the answers, I'll make a couple of observations to try to rationalize my argument for combining.

Talking about 2 spells kind of gives away the answer unless my guess is wrong. Wouldn't have a clue without the hint though.

Posts # 4 and # 6 give away the answer.
What is your guess btw ?

    Colin Appleton from May 22, 1989 to Oct 30, 1989 6.25%

    Those stats aren't quite right.
Appleton didn't get any honours in his second spell.

I would've got that. But wasn't Colin Appleton a plumber?
