As we all know (and anyone who has forgotten will be smugly be reminded by any Mackem), Newcastle are no longer in the FA Cup and as such, there will be no match at St James Park this weekend. Never fear though, if you're going to be missing your fix of live football or the kids are wondering why they're not being taken to a match this saturday then there are a number of good local matches you can go to.

Cheaper than a Toon ticket and a learning curve for many, non-league football is surprisingly entertaining and a great way to take your minds off our failure in the cups this season. <ok>

My highlighted game (surprise surprise) at the NPL game at Croft Park.

Blyth Spartans v Chorley - Blyth have been in fine form this season at Croft Park with their last home defeat in the league being on the 26th of October. Croft Park has seen 96 goals in 25 games so far this season as the Spartans have been playing an open, attacking game of late. They face a Chorley side looking to take advantage of their games in hand to move to the top of the table, Blyth themselves capable of moving into a playoff spot with a win so there's plenty to play for.

    Also playing this saturday we have;

    Northern League Div 1
    Ashington v Spennymoor Town
    Dunston UTS v Whitley Bay
    Durham City v Penrith
    Morpeth Town v Marske United
    Team Northumbria v Shildon

    Northern League Div 2
    Chester-Le-Street v Birtley Town
    Heaton Stannington v Alnwick Town
    Jarrow Roofing v South Shields
Ryton & Crawhook Albion v Whitehaven
Seaham Red Star v Norton & Stockton Ancients

As well as some lower league football too.

So rather than sitting at home bawling your eyes out that there's no Toon match to watch, why not pop on down to one of these matches? <ok>

If I see you at the Blyth game I will buy you a pint*!

    *No I won't.

I go to all our games, but if I was to go somewhere else it would be to the Heed.

My Uncle Don is a massive Shields fan. Lives in Cleadon, but doesn't give a toss about SAFC (or NUFC). Very strange to me, but he loves the non-league games for their honesty.

    North or South?

I found it quite weird that there is a lot of genuine hatred between North Shields fans and Whitley Bay fans due to the local council favouring the latter in terms of funding.
