It does get a bit quite on here on non match days, so I thought I get some brain matter working for us. I don't know the answer to this so proof would be good. What is the longest unbeaten start to the season in the fourth tier of English football, who and for how many matches. You will win a iPad Ps (prize is ficitional) UTG!!!
ok. James I'll make a start (sort of) Looking at the teams that went on to win the league:- 1958/9 Portvale lost the first 2 games and didn't get a win until game 6. 1959/60 Walsall went 5 games unbeaten lost game 6. 1960/1 Peterborough went 5 games unbeaten lost game 6. 1961/2 Millwall lost the first 2 games and won their 3rd. 1962/3 Brentford lost their 2nd game against the Gills. 1963/4 Gillingham went 13 games unbeaten before losing to Carlisle United on Tuesday 15th October away from home. (score 3 - 1) also played 2 league cup games during that period and won them both so that's 15 games unbeaten. that's it for now give someone else a chance at the Ipad
As no one else has bothered here are the next 6 seasons. 1964/5 Brighton lost in game 6. 1965/6 Doncaster lost in game 3. (promoted but came straight back down) 1966/7 Stockport lost in game 7. 1967/8 Luton lost in game4. 1968/9 Doncaster lost in game 5. 1969/70 Chesterfield lost their 2nd game. So we're up to 1970 and as yet the best start to a season apart from us is, well us.
So! for the next 6 seasons. 1970/1 Notts county undefeated in their first 9 games (home form :- won 19 games, drew 4, lost 0) 1971/2 Grimsby lost in game 7. 1972/3 Southport lost in game 7. 1973/4 Peterborough Undefeated for 8 games (the same as us) lost game 9. 1974/5 Mansfield Town lost in game 6. 1975/6 Lincoln lost their first game. I will try a new quiz thread with easier questions to hopefully get others to join in.
