For some just before the trip.... STEPHANE Sessegnon faces a return trip to Africa just days before next weekâs Tyne-Wear derby. The Sunderland hitman has been named in the 17-man Benin squad for Wednesdayâs African Cup of Nations qualifier in Ethiopia. While many of Sunderlandâs squad are on international duty next week, the Black Cats will be sweating on the condition of the ever-present Sessegnon. The 27-year-old has emerged as the key figure for the Wearsiders this season and Sunderland will be desperate for him to play a pivotal part in the trip to Tyneside on Sunday, March 1. Newcastle have similar worries of their own though, with Papiss Demba Cisse selected in the Senegal squad for a qualifier in South Africa, though Demba Ba has been left out of the squad.
Fortunately for us one thing about Sess is he isn't very injury prone, so I'm not to worried about this.
I am the first person to say, Go for it with players and internationals, the more they play the more they learn, but i believe Benin have 1 point from 4 or 5 games, so the chances of qualifying i believe are pretty slim to none existent, so in this case i dont really see the point of him being in the squad, surely they should just stick younger players in to get experience.
Sh1t One important point to take from the Arsenal double header, was when we played midweek we lost and when they played midweek they lost. I suppose we can fly Sess first class there and back and have a physio/doc with him as well. It is all part of an international footballers life, but with our record in the past couple of seasons against the mags we really do need Sess at his best!
