Did anyone else watch Athletic Bilbao dismantle Mancheser United this evening? Fantastic, swift passing moves played with considerable intensity. All this achieved by a squad assembled from players within the Basque region or are of Basque origin. It proves you don't need to pay huge sums of money to attain a high standard of football. I believe Saints can achieve a similar standard in the near future. Contrast this with the commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live on the expensively assembled Manchester City. The commentators are struggling to make any comments about City's football. Just to make a further comment, it is good to see the less celebrated teams doing well in this season's European club competitons like Hannover, Bilbao, Sporting (??) and Nicosia in the Champions League.
Red and white could well be a dominant colour this year Premiership _ Manchester United Championship - Southampton Division 1 - Charlton Division 2 - Swindon Carling Cup - Liverpool FA Cup - Liverpool, Stoke, Sunderland (??) Champions League - Bayern (?) Europa League - Bilbao (?)
I thoroughly enjoyed the game Bilbao were by far the better team and apart from a peice of magic from Rooney united offered nothing in return. The fans looked and sounded absolutely brilliant, made one hell of a noise and I am very glad we have an association with them.
Same, what a strike from Llorente, Van Persie v Everton springs to mind. The football Bilbao play is outstanding, I hope ITV/Channel 5 show them in the next round.
