There has been a lot of dis respectable comments on the takeover thread regarding SD. Before i get hounded as an SD lover or similar, I do want SD to move on, because he cant progress the club any further. What he has done though is: - Cleared the high earners and poison from the club. - Currently has us debt free and investable. - Got us to 2 wembley outings in 2 seasons. - Replaced the seats in the stadium, returning it to its former glory. - AND FINALLY, if we are to believe the rumors, he has got the biggest investors we have ever seen in our lifetime on the verge of buying the club. When im reading comments like "I hope Donald has lost a lot of money" and other comments similar, it lacks class, which is something I thought we had as supporters. We all want the best for SAFC, but lets not be like those lot up the road. Hes came here, hes tried, hes done some good stuff but ultimately didn't quite succeed. But now looks to be leaving us in more capable hands.
****ed up the best chance we had to get out this league last year by moving goalposts, for that reason I’m out ps. short left us debt free not the fat dwarf
Ah, but do you have any definitive proof that Donald did not **** up our best chance of getting out of this league by moving the goalposts with FPP? Easy this.
I think he will be the first to admit he has made mistakes. I also think that he generally means well and was probably too open with certain people in the early days which has come back to bite him. In terms of what he has achieved off the field I don't think many can complain. Reduced the annual losses from £30-5m, removed the high earning charlatan's, potentially brought some wealthy people to the table, engaged well with the fans in the early days when there was a huge disconnect. He will however be judged by results on the pitch whereby as a club we failed. He inherited a threadbare squad, appointed a so called young and up and coming manager, lost a guaranteed goalscorer due to an agent. He went for broke in shelling out on a recognised replacement who has failed. Then there was defeat at the death in the playoffs, a penalty shootout defeat in a final and finally was a couple of points from the automatic promotion spots when the season was ended. I think the treatment he has received from some quarters has been appalling. Each to their own I guess. Everyone just wants out of this league.
Or they just got cold feet, changed their mind and didn't initially think the investment was worth the risk.
I believe in this country we abide by the innocent until proven guilty law? Otherwise we can all accuse each other of the worst possible things and not take any consequences. Yes, very easy this.
Absolutely agree. Shame its turned out the way it has, because there was a lot of positives in the early part of his tenure. Unfortunately results on the pitch, along with not being fully open about the finances have ultimately scuppered things. I also think that whilst many people say he's not been transparent enough, his openness at the beginning set him up to fail when he wanted / needed to be a bit more coy about things. Overall a failure, but I don't think he's quite the villain he's been painted.
I’ll give credit where it’s due he’s done a good job of slashing costs. He’s done it at a long term cost to the club though with the academy etc. But, we are not dying so fair play. Now off you **** Stu.
He came with a narrative of being a saviour of the club and hoped to get promoted, make a decent wedge and ride off into the sunset a considerably richer man with the fans loving him. Didn't quite work out for him, was ****ing close like but the Don gets no cigar or loving for close. What we now have instead as a legacy is someone who proved to be ****ing inept at footy negotiation with the Grigg deal, loaded a load of key positons with non-league people, lost loads of talent from the academy, and has overseen the worst ever league positions in our history. I'm not one to wish ill on Don, or anyone else for that matter, but he has always said if the fans don't want him he'll go. Bye bye.
But but you always insist on evidence before you will believe anything. How can you decide either way without cold hard facts as you normally ask for? You cannot say innocent or guilty without proof. It is therefore just as likely to be true as false.
totally agree ..he isn't the first and wont be the last to fail on the pitch and that is where you are ultimately judged, the the character assassination reflects badly on us .. I think he genuinely wanted to succeed but has been found wanting. The club was in free fall long before he arrived, turning around both off and onfield at the same time is a mammoth task.
Another thing, Methven said the piss taking party was going to stop, so how did that go? Well, we spent £2.8 mil on agents fees from Feb 2018 to Jan 2019 with Barnsley the next highest spenders on 400k. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/revealed-how-much-league-one-2720785 Then, from the next accounting period from Feb 2019 to Jan 2020 we spent £1.3 mil with Coventry second on a 300k spend. https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...underland-coventry-and-ipswich-larger-2894902 £4 mil in agents fees man.
Yes he’s cut costs, but anyone could have come in and made a load of job cuts. He got Cattermole, Oviedo, Kone etc off wage bill on paper, just spread the cost of their wages over a longer period to make it look better. Took £20m to purchase the club, yet to be paid back. Went against the managers wishes when signing Grigg for 3 times more than the maximum the manager said he was worth. Set the club’s academy back years by flogging anyone who was worth any kind of money. Got shot of our star striker to pay off debt - arguably costing us promotion. Failed to back our manager in the summer transfer window last year Failed to back the manager in the January window this year. His plan was to flip the club quickly for profit. Had he managed to do this without all of the above, then fair play he’s deserved it. What he’s done is overseen back to back worst finishes in our history. Our squad is awful, with no sellable assets, with no academy prospects either. We have wasted our parachute payments. He has alienated large sections of our support by blaming them for driving him out, and lying about kidnapping his daughter. This is despite him trying to flog the club to anyone about 9 month into his tenure He’ll get zero respect from me. I hope he loses a fortune when he eventually sells up.
Exactly, so without knowing something is true or false, it's unfair to hold someone responsible of something. Which you are doing.
And I’ll have no doubt missed plenty off. Amazing that anyone is still sucked in by this chancer. The biggest waste of space we’ve ever seen
When you say 'got shot of our star striker' I presume you mean Maja? Maja didn't want to sign and had 6 months left on his deal. We had a sell on clause on that sale, and we will be paid out again when he goes to the premier league, which I believe he will. What saleable assets did we have when he took over? None. I agree about the academy. But, I don't think you can dispute this: We are in a much better position now than when SD first took over.
