Apparently thousands of Forest fans turned out to greet their new manager...

How or when this could've happened, who knows but Steve McClaren? Come on! If it was Rangers he was coming to, I for one, wouldn't be doing any greeting. Grieving more like!

What are the Forest board thinking? Someone must be looking at this extremely dodgy appointment through blue tinted shades... could be there's a Briatore wannabe in there somewhere...

Steve McClaren, despite his privileged background, the dullest and dumbest so called manager in the game. Daft as a brush and not even the vaguest hint of a clue. He doesn't even look inspired. He's an opportunist at best and just trots out the stuff he thinks people want to hear (and in a psuedo foreign accent as embarassingly evidenced in a couple of clips on YouTube!).

The image of him sitting under the umberella as England boss just about sums up what a wet he is.

So how come he's done so well in Holland? Probably cos they're so experimental there, there's half a chance some random comment will get taken as genius, set off a positive chain reaction and come the end of the season, Steve gets carried aloft to the sound of 'champione' wondering what day it is! There always seems to be a look of thinly veiled bemusement below that ungainly tuft don't there?

There are those who are saying that his Euro experience will lead to an improved reputation over here. Apart from the obvious, '**** Forest, we've got our own problems', how do you think he'll get on? McClaren-led big club back in the prem next year?

My money's on a heap of garden-leave and a new gaffer at the City Ground come New Year.

    You don't rate him then!
He's got his work cut out anyway, that league looks tougher than ever.

It'll be interesting to see whether McLaren is given a sizeable transfer kitty seeing as Davies was always moaning about lack of support from the board. I still think Warnock should be looking at their centre-backs as possible targets.

Can't agree with that. They haven't got to play us this year!

Felt a little tactical detraction might be appreciated LTR... get's kinda wearing discussing the weather and our particular poisons, much less our woes around owners and the mercenaries we may (but probably won't) be bringing in.

Anyways, I'm still more than interested in the Championship. It's always been the better competition imho.

I think he's a good appointment. Took Boro to the UEFA cup and if Scott Carson could catch a ****ing football would have taken England to Euro 2008. How many other English managers have the balls to go abroad and risk their reputations? For those reasons alone I think the man deserves better than what some News International copywriter has to say about him. I think he'll do all right there

Fair play Tooting. I assure you my opinions about McClaren come from what I see as opposed to media interpretations.

I think he went to Europe because after England there was nowhere else for him to go over here.

However, the fact that he's been offered work being so at odds with my (probably bigoted) assessment, I just thought a thread on the subject would draw out alternative opinions for me to chew over - so thanks for your's.

He did a bloody good job at 'Boro. Won the only major trophy in the Club's history to boot.

No Worries Brixton. It's a fair opinion. I just think the 'wally with the brolly' tag was unfair. I personally think he's a better coach than he is given credit for.

As you said, he'll be gone by Xmas now I've said that :)
