Indoor football pitch to be installed at Airco Arena as Hull City look to develop academy please log in to view this image A STATE-of-the-art 3G pitch is set to be installed inside the Airco Arena in Hull by the end of next month. Officials at the Stadium Management Company (SMC) are planning to lay a £50,000 synthetic pitch to enable more football matches to be played at the venue. Work will start on laying the surface after the Sky televised netball clash between Yorkshire Jets and the Celtic Dragons on April 6. Once completed, the indoor facility will no longer be able to stage sports such as netball, trampolining, gymnastics and basketball. However, the surface – which will be the biggest of its kind in the region – will allow the venue to stage more football matches and leagues. Hull City chief executive Ehab Allam, who manages the SMC which runs the Arena, has now signed off on the project which will cost in excess of £250,000 to complete. It is understood the facility will be used for training by the Tigers' academy teams as the club look to improve their current Category Three status, the lowest ranking of all Premier League sides. The new surface does not mean that court sports cannot be held at the venue, with a special £20,000 surface set to be brought in to stage the British Squash Open later this year. Events like the Hull Business Expo will also be able to remain at the venue, with the use of a temporary surface. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Indo...tory-26161929-detail/story.html#ixzz3UCEAdq9K
Good news from a football and City point of view, but that must be a big blow to netball, gmynastics, etc. Almost every time I've been in there's people playing one of those sports.
Excellent news indeed. The times they are a changing as someone once said, lets hope we can move on together soon and not continue with bitter and stupid grudges and recriminations all the time. Also, I'm with Ellewoods, wtf is a 3G pitch?
South Hunsley school have a 3G pitch. If you've ever played on their pitch, that's what it'll be like.
Clearly not. My fraternity in college played on an artificial pitch(I was goalie) so I've been on one but I doubt it was the new 3G variety.
It's short for 3rd Generation, same as with mobile networks. Some pithces are advertised as 4 or even 5G but there's very little distinction. In fact, I'm not sure there is a difference officially. It's basically just astroturf that isn't that crap covered in sand that cuts you up.
If i remember righ Aye, it's loads of little rubber crumbs in it,that get in your boots and end up getting all over your house,in your sandwiches,in your bed, everywhere.
Ha, those rubber crumbs really do get everywhere, one game on a 3G pitch and those little buggers will keep appearing in your socks, boots and bag for months.
3G pitches are a mare to slide tackle on. Used to end up with my knees cut up quite a bit when i used to play up at Bishop Burton.

About par for the course, unfortunately. As a City fan, I'm obviously pleased we're improving our facilities, I just wish we wouldn't do these things in such a ****ty manner.
