Here we go. Final matches of the season this week. Looking at the results, 9th place is possible if we win and the results go in our favour. This is what would have to happen: Tuesday 17th May: Man City vs Stoke = Man City win Sunday 22nd May: Newcastle vs West Brom = Newcastle win Bolton vs Man City = Man City win Stoke vs Wigan = Wigan win That would leave us on 48 points, and in 9th place below Fulham, who will either have 48 points and beat us on GD, or have 51 points if they beat Arsenal. If Stoke beat Wigan (the most likely upset), then they will have 49 points and that means the best we could hope for is 10th. Now if we lose, then the best we can hope for is staying at 12th if these results go in our favour: Aston Villa vs Liverpool = Liverpool win West Ham vs Sunderland = West Ham win If Villa and the Mackems win, we'll be knocked down to 14th. If only one of them win, we'll be in 13th. If Villa lose and Sunderland draw, we'll be 12th and beat the mackems on GD. If Villa win and Sunderland draw, we'll be 13th and still be ahead of the unwashed. Now if we draw, we could end up anywhere from 10th to 14th. It all depends on which teams lose (if any) out of Stoke, Bolton, Sunderland and Villa. Obviously, if we drew, it means West Brom would have as well (as we're playing them), so they'd end up with 47 and in a position above us. Hopefully that paints a clear picture for y'all.
I'm well aware of its existence as I posted in it. This is just giving a more factual and clear run-down of every possible outcome, for anyone who is interested.
I don't mind too much to be honest...9th would be amazing, but 14th would give us more to aim for next year and hopefully remove a little bit of pressure (people complaining that we fininshed higher last season etc.). Safety was the priority, taking 9th would be great and beating the Mackems would be a bonus!
If we got zero points at Chelsea, it means that the mackems could have drawn against West Ham and overtook us (if we lose this weekend). However, that point now means that the mackems MUST win, even if we lose. It's nice that the positive result is now statistically in our favour, but West Ham have been really poor and they now have absolutely nout to fight for.
Your still up Sid, still got the derby games to look forward to next season. Left a pint on the bar yesterday in case you turned up.
Had West Ham won yesterday and not got relegated I'd have them down for a win next week (no offence to sunderland) but they would have had something to play for. With Avram Grant now sacked will they go out with a wimper or with some pride?? Personally I think it'll end a draw and so will we. But been a great season
Always look forward to the derbies, however we're playing Who can forget Gyan's 30 yard screamer to equalize at the SoL?
Depends how much the West Ham players care about the fans really. That's it. If they're very disappointed for the fans and want to give them something in the final game of the season, they'll put in a fight. If they don't care, they won't bother their arses one little bit.
If we win then we're a cert for 11th, and not everyone around us will pick up points, top 10 is a likely possibility
Think Stoke could stumble in the last 2 games, so 9th is likely with a victory but I've got a feeling we'll finish 10th.
