or: 8 wins and 4 draws. 7 defeats. or: 7 wins and 7 draws. 5 defeats. That is what we need to stay up although this season even 40 points may not be enough. With teams like Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich doing better than expected and the likes of WHU, Leicester, WBA and Stoke doing well I can see us, the mags and villa struggling. Maybe Swansea will fade and the 3 promoted teams will fall down the league, but we will still need 40+ points. This is a massive window and, depending on what happens, it will decide our fate. If we go down we shouldn't expect to bounce back up. We have already lost to each of the promoted teams.
Not sure why your logic dictates 40 points or more! After 19 games, Swansea have 19 points. Double that and they get 38! There's always a surprise in the mix. I reckon 38 will be safe personally. Maybe less. Swansea started very well but have been white since they played Newcastle a week before us. Only got a point off is due to some cheating by Ashley Williams and the ref! I can't see them getting another 19 points. Sadly I can't see us getting another 19 either! Guess we'll know more after the window closes Losing to each of the promoted teams means nothing for next season. We beat Newcastle, Stoke and palace . The latter two both significantly better than any of the promoted. Also drew with better as well.
I think too many things are conspiring against us this year. Unlike the previous two there genuinely were three worse teams, not this year.
I think about 36 - 37 points will keep us up personally. So another 25 points from 19 games. 6 wins, 7 draws, 6 losses.
I don't think we'll do it, was just saying what will be required Mind you, we have pulled off escapes like this in the past couple of seasons...
If 38 points keeps us up Marcus, we still need a remarkable run with the 19 games. 8 wins 4 draws and 7 defeats. 7 wins 7 draws and 5 defeats. 6 wins 10 draws and 3 defeats. Considering we have had 5 defeats in December alone (and we have to play them all again) it's a tall order. I still think this season we will need 40 as some of the 'smaller' teams are getting strange results and picking up unexpected points. We are down to the bones of the squad in defence and midfield. A lot rests on how the window goes. Sam's the right man for us but it looks pretty dismal, even if we get a couple in.
Well I think we only have 4 winable home games left villa west brom bournmouth and Palace. Draws: Everton, Man U So we need 3 away wins and 4 away draws. We are screwed...
After the last few seasons and the "great escapes" its a bit too soon to write us off. However, this season just has a feel of season too far for us. I actually feel our squad is as bad as I have have seen for a few years and only Villa stops me from thinking the worst in the league. But lets see what Big Sam can come up with, a few signings and a few wins just might have things looking a bit brighter....I just have my doubts.
The bookmakers are currently offering the 'best bets' of 6/1 odds that we stay up and the 'worse bet' odds of 1/12 that we go down -if we lose against Villa those staying up odds will certainly improve and become more attractive and then it might be worth risking a speculative gamble for another death defying ' great escape'
I reckon the promoted teams will go straight back down, they will not achieve what Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford will this season. We were 7 points adrift in March remember, but still stopped up and with 19 matches we can still do it 5 home wins, Villa, Bournemouth, WBA, Everton C Palace ? 2 away at Mags and one other maybe Soton plus 5 draws. So win 7 draw 5 lose 7 or 6-8-5 (unlikely though) 36 points may do though. Most important month ever January now where we need to beat Villa, Swansea and Bournemouth.
We are probably going to have to perform like a 9th or 10th place team in the second half of the season to have a chance of staying up. Difficult, very difficult in fact, but not impossible. KTF
Absolutely. Just 2 wins put us right back in the mix. **** up tomorrow..... and it's just 3 wins puts us right back in the mix....
