    they seem to be taking the fun out of the whole thing. last summer it was all artillery, airstrikes, catching them unawares etc, now they seem to actually want to end the war and bring the country back together. that isnt what i fought for.

    <laugh>

    you can tell i got the hearts and minds brief <laugh>

    basically every isaf operation has to have an afghan element, even doing air assault every one of our platoons had 2 random afghan army guys with us who basically did **** all, got in the way and generally monged about with the interpreter (i did have a minor scrap with 2 of them whilst trying to stand up in a chinook going into that panthers claw thing, apologised later, was a bit worried they'd shoot me <ok>). it looks like this one is primarily afghan led but that might just be how its being spun to the media. there's be plenty of instances where they've carried out operations (done **** all) and isaf have "supported" (done the op)

    had a rifle for the first couple of months then our platoon signaller got injured and i took over his job. there's only 1 shotgun in the platoon (for blowing hinges on doors, its also good when you're in hash/wheat fields) so it goes to the signaller as he's always with the platoon commander with the lead section (1/3 of the platoon), had a pistol as well but left it under my bed when we went out as the mags were ****ed so it was just useless weight to lug about <laugh>

    hated the shotgun, jammed all the time, **** all range and when fired at might illuminates everything within 3m of you. it does look pretty cool though <ok>
