alright chaps just your thoughts on these articles... Sunderland owner Ellis Short will give Martin OâNeill an anniversary present - with his backing and money to spend on players in the transfer window. The London-based American has decided to give OâNeill up to £8million to invest on his struggling side, despite the disappointing end to his first year in charge. Sunday's defeat at Norwich means the Black Cats have won just two of their 14 league games so far this season - in 22 going back to last term. Short forked out in the summer to buy Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson, and is going to find more funds for a squad that needs strengthening - and a manager who's looking for backing. OâNeillâs future has been in doubt in recent weeks amid reports - which were flatly denied - that he was ready to quit out of frustration with his lot. However, the Northern Irishman has been waiting on word from above about the make-or-break January market and now he will get cash. Hard-headed Short knows that the cost of sacking OâNeill and his staff plus finding a replacement - possibly including compensation - means that it makes better sense to put money into buys. OâNeill could increase his war-chest further with sales, but there are not many players in his small squad who would bring in a significant fee. The Sunderland chief wants a couple of additions and Shortâs cash would go a long way to providing him with the money to buy the men he is after. OâNeillâs central midfield has been found wanting this season with skipper Lee Cattermole in and out of the side because of injury and suspension, so a new face is needed in that department. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have to say 8m is not enough and if we want to really improve we should be looking to spend it on 1 maybe 2players at an absolute max and 1 or 2 loan deals, we need quality not quantity so I hope we dont waste it on panic signings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another article I read today (sorry I cba to find it) was on about Rose to Liverpool and it said that in his loan contract that there is the option it can be cancelled in January, lets say it is true and Liverpool agree with Spurs to do a deal for him in Jan or Spurs want him back then, either way we won't have him I wonder if that Strinic who according to reports we were close to getting in the summer only for Dnipro's other left back getting a serious injury hampering the deal will be back and high on MoN's wishlist. January is absolutely massive for us, a month were not that much business happens but we need to be very active and like Cest said on his post earlier all the targets will already be identified and I really hope they will really improve us and that they come because we need an injection of quality.
really agree mate and I think we need to spend around 15-20m on 4 or even 5players and I would go for... Danny Rose (5m) - lads been outstanding, get him signed up ASAP before others come sniffing will also create a space for a premier league loan, if its true and he goes then would get this Strinic bloke for same price, looked solid when I have seen him for Croatia. Moussa Sissikho (3.5m) - out of contract in the summer so I am sure Toulouse would do a cut price deal, offer him a big signing on fee to get him to the club and with decent wages, the lad would improve us so much, would add power, height, ability and abit of pace into the midfield something which we really lack. Stewart Downing (loan) - really think MoN will go for this lad, been poor for Liverpool, I aint a huge fan of his, was and never will be good enough for England but good enough for a mid table team and thats us. John Guidetti (loan) - just coming back from a virus which has kept him out but was outstanding for Feyenoord last season, I am sure he would come in and have the same sort of impact Rose, Welbeck and Evans done while here. still think we need a young, quick, ball playing centre back and a central midfielder with abit of flair and creativity in Jan as well
We need to sign Rose at all costs either in Jan or the end of the season he has been our best player so far. the rumors about him leaving in jan are ****e we loaned him for the season end of. IMO we need 4 players in Jan a CB, 2 x CM & a forward That's if ES wants to give mon about 30-40m
He wasn;t last time he was here - he has the ability blatantly but it didn;t weork for him at Liverpool - I personally don;t think he'd be a bad signing He might end up being the opposite of Johnson - arrives with no expectations and plays well - Johnson arrived with a lot of expectation and has been a disappointment so far - still has the ability but not really showing enough yet
£8m is not not enough unless the amount can be added to by sales. IMHO we need a young pacy CB, a creative CM and a new striker if Mr Wickham fails his audition. MoNs loans in Rose and Cuellar have been good Saha less so. Personally I would buy Rose if possible but the 'spine' players come first. We do have a thin squad short on quality, Fletcher has proved a good buy, Johnson is very disappointing and McClean should not be on the pitch. Sess is starting to come good, if he would now just look up and make his final pass better or shot on target more clinical. I wonder if Myler will make the grade and we can get him back off loan?
though we can't, but should we not go for eleven loanee's we seem to do better with other team's player's than our own!
Get Strinic in, move Rose up to left wing and drop jimmy. I was under the impression we had Danny for a season long deal. May be wrong tho.
We shall have to agree to disagree Marcus mate. Bloody hell you're going back a long way to find a time he wasn't ****.
