I'm not sure we will ever know the reason behind SC's sacking other than the threat of relegation at the time or if it's true that he wasn't allowed money to spend on players and if so why....But what ever facts we've not been told the fact remains that he was stubborn with his team setups and wouldn't change his formation of 3.5.2.
BCFC was being touted as a family friendly club.. SL [ Board ] in future plans nurtured that idealism, started before the new stands was a push on getting families to attend. Now it was a long time ago but there was an altercation in which alledgedly SC exchanged some rather loud "sharp language" with 1 or 2 fans because of the result and of himself! A number of children were within earshot [ along with other fans and board members, possibly including SL ]. SC should have kept stum and ignored, apparently he didnt bad results on top was straw that broke the camels back!

the root cause of most of our problems was [is] having a plan A, a Plan B, and a Plan C, all in action at the same time:-
Plan A =========== build a team worthy of getting us into the prem
Plan B =========== Sell the best players to get us out of debt and buy the odd "few" young potentials for team or resale
Plan C =========== Rebuild the team that was doing well but got sold, and start off with a new Plan A and add a plan D get rid of manager and start from scratch ...eventually!

SL has stated categorically, the high performance centre had no affect on BCFC team or club finances [ pretty much he paid for it!!! ] so any thoughts on it being a drain on maybe improving team purchases etc = no way Jose

Facts , both have had the opportunity and backing at L1, SC succeeded winning it reaching nearly 100 points, whilst winning Mickey Mouse cup also, to date LJ has failed . Championship LJ had opportunity and backing , again failed, didn’t even reach playoffs. SC hasn’t had backing or opportunity , so speculation as to whether he’d have succeeded given the chance. Those are the facts!!
He did have opportunity being with us....and failed....and we were on course back to League 1...the funds or backing whether offered or not is what we don't know.....I remember a couple of players for silly money being talked about at the time....but I think I read they didn't want to come..

Why was the board members sat in the Atyeo end?

Gray I think was a done deal (he was the other to Maguire) , but the man in charge of transfers tried renegotiate the deal so went belly up. When we went back into try and salvage the deal we ended up probably offering more than was already agreed. Then Burnley came in and the rest is history.
If we never tried to get these cheaper than what Cotts and Burt thought was fair he could possibly been at our club before Burnley became interested.
Gayle did not want to come and that one was trying to repair the damage.
Fredericks was a big improvement on a successful league one team which if he never came in all Billy big bollocks so Mark Little showed him he wasn’t.
Those three would have changed the course of the season, like when Tomlin joined just after LJ but the deal was already in place. That one may have been Pembleton’s but like others say these sort of things take months in spotting the opportunity so could possibly have been Cotts who started the ball rolling.
Just imagine if Cotts didn’t go on holiday that year, things may have been different.
That person who tried renegotiation on those deals was let go by the club later into that season, and along came MA.

it was at the end of the game and my mind [ 8 years on ] says was the changing rooms and dug outs at the end of the pitch? could have been ...:emoticon-0138-think

Dug outs have always been middle of the pitch, but changing rooms were in Atyeo at that point. They did not move until about a year after the Lansdown stand was up.
how I saw it was behind the dug outs ... at end of game... could have been going down the tunnel .... the [ info ] brackets would infer more than just the fan & children were in earshot .. maybe misleading as cant remember every detail I try and retain bullet point facts like he had an altercation/children/earshot/ bad language ... but anyway base line is he was out of order.

I agree 100%......had a team gelling until clumps of the decent players got moved on..

Hardly gelling with long unbeaten spells and longer winless spells, like 2 wins in 23 games from a 2nd place, same every season. The selling of players was his problem IF he never had control of recruitment.

It also didn't help getting rid of Ayling and Freeman and not offering Wilbraham a player coach role and easing out Wade Elliott from his coaching role.

I don't disagree with most of that if I'm honest..

Maybe he could have made it work with the right players.....but that's just pure speculation......he wouldn't try anything else and the negative results ended him getting the sack.....apart from a few months at Birmingham and for one that had been in management a fair few years, no other club in the Championship has been willing to give him a chance....fact.
I see the same stubbornness appearing from our current manager, whom also seems to be set in his ways, he's starting to show IMHO that he doesn't want or have the ability to change things to get the best from the players he has to pick from......but hey, fingers crossed, I could be wrong and we will go on a run and steer away from what got SC the sack back in 2016..

I know exactly why what happened actually happened, I know how and by whom it was brought to the owners attention and how seriously it was viewed and why SL decided he couldn't sack him and decided to ease him out in a different way, it was a risky strategy that luckily worked, we will never know if the signings set up by Cotterill would have made any difference, it certainly would not have made matters worse that's for sure.

Not one of our 3 managers has ever gotten the best out of quite a few of this squad and sadly they are some of the senior players.
