Maybe not football related...... but well done Murray. Like him or loathe him he was superb today and fully deserved it. It was a very intense but exciting match. Once again a good thing for british sport. Not a bad weekend for us brits. Any thoughts?

Awesome performance by the British (ex Scottish) player. It was around 40 celsius courtside and most of the rallies were long and punishing.

Plus with the weight of expectation on his shoulders from the partisan crowd (I wish they'd stick those ****ing plastic union flags up their arses until last night of the proms <ok>) a lot more pressure to perform.

    Well played Mr Murray.

Nothing compared to the synthetic anger that would have been directed at him had he not been there. <ok>

    A few thoughts as requested

    a) Tennis is a minority sport with 99.9% of our population never playing it in any serious format and 99% of the population never watching it, not even on TV, from one Wimbledon to the next. I am part of the majority so to me Tennis is as irrelevent to me as wrestling, weightlifting, ping pong, tiddlywinks and most other irrelevent minority sports.

    b) When asked which Football team he supported Murray said ' whoever is playing England ' and when asked later whether his comment was tongue in cheek he replied ' No. I am Scottish not British and anywhere south of the border is a foreign land ' The LTA gets it's money from England and if it hadn't been for the English LTA he would still be a nobody. To me therefore Murray is an ungrateful toe-rag.

    c) I have far better things to do on a hot sunny day than sit indoors watching said ungrateful toe-rag play a minority sport.

    d) Why do we have to have this minority sport force fed to us for a fortnight by the BBC. It takes up both the main BBC TV channels and 5 live non stop. In the season football, which is the National Sport, is often on TV but never on both main BBC TV channels at the same time. Why is Wimbledon considered so special? Where will be the wall to wall coverage of the Ashes series or the Open Golf?

I sympathise with some of your comments 1950 but not all. I was indifferent to Murray for years and sickened by both him and his mother yawping and being generally aggressive. I warmed to him with his reaction to being battered by Federer last year and his humbled persona is for the better. Lendl must have tw*tted his mother too becasue she was tamed for the occasion, again, for the better. All in all a superb performance though and a great result for the sporting Brits. That said, The Open is more to my taste and a fortnight of Sue Barker is more than anyone should have to endure. Thank God it didn't rain and we were spared Cliff bloody Richard!

cameron made me chuckle, even in 30 degree heat he's still there in the trademark blue shirt and blue tie. come on man, stop looking like a tory and dress down a little - even
just ditch the tie, if you can do that in the royal box

as for murray, well done. tennis ranks below footy, cricket and ruggers, and for me, below Cycling.

You CANNOT be serious, man!? <grr>
The Open (golf) means four more days of that other simpering, repulsive and irrelevant Scot, Hazel Irvine.
Plus she's all over any snooker the BBC cover <yikes>

At least Sue Barker did play the sport on which she commentates. I've not see Irvine compile too many 147s or make eagle putts lately!

Glad Cameron made you chuckle Max - he normally makes me cry!! I saw a photo today in the paper of the special box - several bits of high class totty surrounded by a load of stuffed shirts in suits and ties. What is it with this Country that we always have to dress up like that? I love horse racing and have been to every racecourse in the country including Ascot but I would never go to Royal Ascot because of the dress code. Sport is an imformal day out to enjoy yourself - not a bleedin' fashion parade. Another rant over.

Oh I think Hazel is quite foxy Cromer and although not an ex-pro she is a proper journalist. Barker was a decent player in her pomp but to have her as an anchor shows her up as a lightweight. Still, just my opinion

You have to say well done Andy, one hell of an achievement considering the amount of pressure he was under. Whats the betting that next year the line will be - It's been XX years since a brit retained the wimbledon trophy!

Also, Well done for having such an amazing girlfriend as Kim Sears, I wonder what she sees in him? <whistle>

Good God Dave - have you been on the sherbet again!! Even Cliff Richard baulked at the idea of giving her one!! I'm not particularly fussy mate but I wouldn't fight you for her nor for Claire Balding for that matter. Note to 1950 from himself - stop this now. You got into enough trouble a while ago for going down this route!!!

I have never liked Murray for his anti-English rant, but he did play well on the day so he deserved to win. Lucky for him the English don't have anyone else to support. I only ever watch the final, I find it all a bit repetitive! In terms of sport Tennis is probably down to about 6th in the pecking order, it's a very middle-class sport!

You must be clinging on to memories from the late 70's when we all fancied her something rotten :)
