As there are quite a number of 606ers migrating here, I thought I'd duplicate this thread from 606 <ok>

The Road to Wembley reaches double figures this week-end, with the Fourth Round Proper being the 10th Round of the competition.

Things are starting to hot up, now that all the competitors have been in action. Thirty Two sides remain in this year’s competition as we go in to Round FOUR.

    Lower league Watch.

Of the 20 sides from Round Three that played in Rounds One and Two, 11 remain:

    6 from League One
    4 from League Two
And One, Crawley Town, who joined in the Fourth Qualifying Round.

Crawley’s reward for dumping out Championship side Derby County is a trip to Plainmoor to face League Two side Torquay Utd. Although they may be disappointed not to have been rewarded with a Premier League side, they will see this match as a realistic opportunity to be the first Non-League side to reach Round Five since Kidderminster in 1994.

    Lower League Breakdown:

Of 6 League One sides 3 are at home and 3 are away
Of the 3 home sides, 2 face Premier League and 1 faces League Two opposition.
Of the 3 away sides, 1 faces Premier League and 2 face Championship opponents

Of 4 League Two sides 2 are at home and 2 are away
The home sides face Championship and Blue Square Prem opposition and the away sides face Championship and League One opponents.

    Focus on Sheffield Wednesday:

The ‘Wednesday’ dates back to when the club initially formed as ‘The Wednesday Cricket Club’ in 1820; Wednesday being the day of the week they played their matches. The football club came into being on 4th September 1867. The idea was to keep the team together and fit during the winter months. The football and cricket teams parted company in 1882, with the cricket club eventually going out of existence in 1925.

The Owls have lifted the famous trophy three times, but their most recent triumph was way back in 1935. They have also been runners up three times, most recently in 1993.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Cup Run so far:

    Round ONE
    Southport 2-5 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

    Round TWO
    SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 3-2 Northampton Town

    Round THREE
    Bristol City 0-3 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

    Last Season:
In a forgettable season, which ended in relegation to League One, they fell at the first hurdle, going down 2-1 at home to fellow Championship side Crystal Palace in Round Three.

    Random Fact.

‘The Wednesday’ originally played in blue and white hoops, rather than stripes
