Anybody stupid enough to be working nights tomorrow ? Enjoy your extra 60 minutes when the clocks go back - I can think of a lot of better ways to spend those extra minutes whilst in my warm bed.
What an odd post, what was your inspiration to share this? And it really doesnt work like that at any company Ive ever known who has a night shift when the clocks change.
They dont. People work 8 or 12 hour shifts, the finishing / start times are irrelvant. If they started at 6pm / 10pm they finish at 5am on this occasion instead of 6am and there's an hour gap until the next shift. Hardly rocket surgery is it?
Are you serious? I can just imagine the people ringing up in that hour asking for help or advice hearing a recorded message telling them to hang on because someone's chosen that hour to be non-existent.
I'm going to check back over the last five years and sack anyone who worked during a leap year, just in case I've overpaid anyone.
My old dog was always fed at 6 pm. When the clocks went back or forward, he'd appear for his food either an hour early or an hour late. For one day. Then he was back on time. I used my dog as a clock......
Well i havent worked at a place that needed a helpdesk at 5am on a Sunday morning. At places like that i assume they have a system in place to deal with the change from BST.
I set my alarm to 5.00am, then make up imaginary problems, just to make sure that help desks are open. I'm the complete opposite of KC Communications, who make up imaginary people, to deal with genuine problems and only open between 2.05pm and 2.06pm on the 29th of February.
I've worked at several places that involved working through the night or on call outs through the night, I've also been in Clubs when the clocks changed and none used the method you mention. Luckily, neither do the ambulances or fire brigade, but I guess it's possible the Police do.
Clubs/pubs will use the licencing laws, which say that they treat it as though the clocks haven't changed on both changes of the clocks. Jacksons having the Prinny Ave shop 24 hours used to pay the normal staff the hours they worked (so an extra hour now and an hour less than normal in Spring) and maintained the shift times, management no adjustment was made as it was generally the same person who worked Saturday night every week so they'd balance up over the year.
Quite ironic that you should use the word " surgery " in your reply. Would you expect hospitals and other essential services ( police, fire, ambulance etc ) to finish work an hour earlier - that hour has to be covered - I would expect that payment would be given - because these people can't just clock off an hour early.
I picked grapes in Bordeaux years ago in my late teens and we worked 7 days a week for about a month free wine accomodation and food. I was there when they changed the clocks and was expecting to get an extra hour in bed but no the farmer came and woke us up at the same time. When I explained about changing the clocks he just gave me that typical blank stare look that the French do so well so I got up and went to work. However at 11 o clock when it was time for lunch I said to him hey it's lunchtime and he said no it isn't we changed the clocks last night and I had to work the extra hour. He basically waited a few extra hours to put the clocks back while we was at work and as we were getting paid by the day I was'nt too pleased French prat!
Jesus Christ, will people stop misinterpreting what I said. In the original post that stated 'Anybody stupid enough to be working nights tomorrow' I clearly stated that I had worked at places with a night shift and it wasnt an issue there as they simply worked their normal length shift and the time was insignificant. I didnt say EVERYWHERE ****ing does that did i? In the 2nd post I also clearly stated that Im sure places that do need 24 cover have a system.
