Andy Dawson Not sure about that, personally, I think it will take more than 75 points this season. However, even if 75 points were enough, which would be 6 wins and 4 draws. WHere are those wins going to come from? If we carry on as we have done so far this season we will get 73 points, so WE MUST IMPROVE. HOME: Ipswich Southampton Coventry Middlesbrough Barnsley Nottm Forest AWAY: Cardiff Crystal Palace Leicester Portsmouth Millwall Watford West Ham We simply aren't going to win all our home games, but I think, looking at our away games, we MUST win 4 if we are to have any chance. So we could target Ipswich, Coventry, Barnsley and Forest leaving Southampton and Boro as draws. That would mean winning twice away from home, so the most likely would be Pompey, Watford and Millwall. Our record at Vicarage Road is actually very good, so that would be one you would fancy. At Millwall it's not good news! We've only won there once in the last 40 odd years, but they are having a poor season so MAYBE we can hope to turn things around. Pompey is somewhere between the two; better than Millwall but not as good as Watford, so perhaps with their off the field troubles we can hope there. Point is though, there is VERY little room for bad results. If we don't win against Ipswich, Coventry, Barnsley and Forest at home and Watford and Pompey away, you wonder where the points are going to come from. Personally, I think we have the momentum necessary to get over the winning line and I think it will be our home results (ie. draws instead of wins) that will be our downfall.
If the automatics and title are sealed by the last day of the season, assuming West Ham are in the automatics and won the title, would that boost our chance of getting something at Upton Park? I'd agree with the winnable games you've picked, 75 points should be enough for the play offs, but we need to start scoring and realise 0-0s aren't gonna get us anywhere fast.
I can see 7 wins at least between now and the end of the season and i dont much care which games they are now. Looking at the full fixture list for March many teams will be cutting each others throats. April also has many head to heads of the top 8. This race is gonna go to the end But for sure we shall all have a much better idea come the end of this mionth.
it's possible but tough, looking at that I think 18-21 pts we could manage giving us 71-74 points. all depends on others.. I tthink it will be very very tight. Beginning of season I said we'd be 8th - 10th.
We needn't worry about other teams. I don't like this kind of 'how many points will we need' debate because there's a much easier way of looking at it: win enough games to get in the top 6 and then win enough to stay there. It's all going to be about winning games from now on, I don't see how any more draws can be useful to us, particularly at home. Before Leeds I said we'd already used all our 'a draw is okay' cards up so now it's time to start beating teams. Let's get at them and attack.
I can now see Briatores point at QPR - - he would rather win 2 in 5 than draw all 5 ... tho that doesnt explain where the dropped 3pts per game are going :/
Somebody hit the nail on the head the other day when they said City will win the games we don't expect them to and not win the one's we do. It's always the same for City supporters, we never have the luxury of saying the next game is a banker because the Tigers always have a way of surprising / shocking you.
We're still in a reasonable position and things can quickly change either way. I think it's always good to aim for something. I don't think we're good enough, but it's not a longshot.
Anything can happen in any game .. That's why the bookies have given me a good beating this season ... Just hoping NB will stick 2 up front on Saturday .
Funny though that when Nick took over it was a very long run of wins and losses and no draws, now he's had 4 straight.. swings and roundabouts or is he doing things differently??
Got an email from a mate this morning: "You'll never get to heaven if you insist on scratching out these 0-0 draws" What's the answer to that?
No. If you're always expecting positives then after the event you've either got what you expected or are disappointed. If you're always expecting a negative then after the event you've either got what you expected or have been positively surprised.
john cleese in the film clockwise hit the nail perfectly on the head "It's not the despair, Laura. I can stand the dispair ... its the hope." . quote is the last 5seconds of the clip.
I think Barmby should start finding out who wants to be here next season, who wants to move on and to draw up a list of which players he thinks can provide a promotion push next season. The magic isn't there this season. We might be playing well but without Van Persie as our 1, it just isn't going to happen unless there are some dramatic tactical changes in the immediate future.
