I was 1 year and 4 days old. so when I looked at that date it was "**** me, 40 years since we won anything "
Just seen the video of us lifting the cup. It's draped in white with one piece of red. I forgot about wembley not having much red ribbons at hand
13 year old. Old enough to enjoy but couldn't get a ticket. Easily my best memory of supporting SAFC and don't think it will be bettered.
That it been 40 years for a club of our size since we either won a trophy or played in Europe is a disgrace to all that have come after it. Are we any closer today to being a trophy winning team or playing in Europe? Sadly, I'd have to say no. I'm 48 now and wonder if I'll ever see us lift another trophy or play in Europe in my lifetime? Thats how shiote we have been and are. That 73 cup final win is great to celebrate but to be absolutely honest, I'm sick to ****ing death of it being our only memory as a club too. Is that wrong of me? Will we still be dragging it and the surviving players up for the 50th anniversary without a trophy again? Probably.
I was 13 years old. My mother took me up roker avenue beside Turvey's garage (near the ropery) and seen the bus go by with players on top with the F A cup, then on the wed night to the Fulwell end which was packed against QPR, and that is what started me off supporting Sunderland.
I'm sure we got beat 3-0. Did anybody care. well I did for one. Thought it was impossible to lose once you won the FA Cup.
I was there...12 years old at the time, and I can recall every minute of that weekend as if it was yesterday..
Im 26 and at least hoping we make a cup final or somehow scrape through into the europa league once in the next however many years i have left.
I had just returned from working abroad and my dad had said we had a good team and would surprise someone some day..and didn't we just...even better I was actually working near Sheffield with plenty of Leeds supporters around who assured me we would get hammered. We had family up for my grans funeral from all over the uk and we all watched it on tele on the day. I am somewhat ashamed to say I couldn't really get in the spirit of the funeral!! I drove thro the High Street after the match in with my cousins tooting and cheering and the town centre was EMPTY of people. What an experience.
Wasn't born but watched the video hundreds of time with my late father who was there. still holds a lot of special memories even though i wasn't of this earth.
What a day that was, I was there and it was AMAZING, every one was exstatic and filled with Hope for the future, but never dreamed that 40 years on that would would still be our only major sucess in what has been far too many roller coaster years COME ON PAULO get the Lads to do somethinng like that and you will see the TRUE SIDE OF PASSION THE FANS HAVE!!!!! http://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2013/may/gallery-1973-cup-victory
