50 years ago this weekend Liverpool Football Club were promoted from the old 2nd division after 8 years under the guidance and managership of Bill Shankly. Only 2 years earlier he arrived at the club and took it by the scruff off the neck from top to bottom, changed our club colours to all red and put us on the road to unimagined success both home and abroad. http://www.sportsnewsireland.com/soccer_irish/102080/ Some key moments of those 50yrs include. 1964-Our first post war league title 1965-Our first FA Cup win 1973 Our first European trophy 1977 Our first European title 1986 Our first League and cup double Our managers during those 50yrs. Bill Shankly-3 League titles,2 FA Cups,1 UEFA Cup Bob Paisley-6 League titles,3 European Cups,1 UEFA Cup,3 League Cups Joe ***an-1 League title,1 European Cup,1 League Cup Kenny Dalglish-3 League titles.2 FA Cups Graeme Souness-1 FA Cup Roy Evans-1 League Cup Gerard Houllier-1 FA Cup,1 UEFA Cup,2 League Cups Rafa Benitez-1 Champions League,1 FA Cup Roy Hodgson-none Kenny Dalglish-1 League Cup,? Our clubs name was dragged through the mud after crowd trouble at the Heysel Stadium in 1985 saw 39 Juventus supporters die due to some of our so called fans of the day causing a deadly crush and wall collapse in the Juventus section of terracing. In 1989 96 of our own supporters died at Hillsborough at an FA Cup final,23 years on and the victims families are still waiting for the truth and justice for their loved ones. Only 2 years ago Liverpool Football Club was on the brink of administration and bankruptcy and we are still work in progress under our new owners. So all in all its been a rollercoaster 50 years, lets hope the next 50 bring us success without controversy and justice for the 96.
