5 years? He'll be nearly 40, bit of a risk, even on a GK.

5 years at his age is okay for a GK - look at Schwarzer, Friedel and Van der Sar (up to his last season) - all going strong despite being late 30's. Friedel and Schwarzer are actually getting better with age. Shay has also had a break for a year effectively. Good luck to him.

Friedel must be about 40ish now, I was surprised he left Villa I watched him play a few times last year and thought he had a terrific season.

There was a keeper playing in the Italian league who was about 42 when he retired, not too long ago. I think Shay will be fine but it's still a risk, not everyone can play til 40.

<grr> Can't believe Villa have got Given .. he may keep them up single handedly which will cost me my twenty quid bet that they'll drop this season ..

Wish Shay all the best, but it's a shame he's now a Villa player.

Late thirties isnt bad at all for a keeper to be fair. I'll not wish him all the best though, i hate Villa. Not as much as Tottenham, but i still hate them.

Really surprised Arsenal are going to stick with Szcheczny for the whole season, i thought Given would have done really well there.

That was first discussed back in 04, thought he should have went there after leaving us, rather than City.

I would have liked to see Shay at Arsenal rather than Villa, but I read somewhere ages ago Man City wouldn't let him go to such a close rival.

Love Given. He earned us so many points in his time here. Was frustrated that he left for city as I knew he'd be swept aside in a matter of time. Shame he's gone to Aston vanilla but wish him all the best, regardless <ok>
