Is that because of Portsmouth (last year when couldn't manage to fill up sub bench)? :D

I prefer having the option for seven subs. Then you can have two defenders so if one defender gets subbed on, then another defender gets injured, you can sub in a second defender. With five subs, it's more likely that a team will only have one defender and so someone will have to play out of position which may be a significant disadvantage. Doesn't seem right that a game should be so heavily influenced by injury (admittedly they could still be even with seven subs).

Saying that, it'd be nice to have a full bench!

Edit: Also since there's now a team whose name begins with the Letter S in the Championship, we won't get the opportunity to call Southampton's subs bench the S Club 7!

I wonder how significant this is really? I mean the bench may have 5, but Most teams will have the same size squad regardless. Unless they are Pompey. Last season the expression "blue few" did not just relate to the fans!;)
