Five players that Bristol City could sign during the January transfer window

Lee Johnson could bolster his squad in January

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson is expected to make the recruitment of a striker a priority when the transfer window reopens in January.

Although the Robins conducted an unprecedented volume of business last summer, being involved in 34 separate transfers and recruiting 13 players for the first team squad, there are still one or two areas that could do with strengthening.

Certainly, City are not overly-blessed with options when it comes to their front-line, and Johnson's team has become heavily dependent upon teenage loan signing Tammy Abraham.

Given that Aaron Wilbraham cannot be expected to play every week and Gustav Engvall has been held back by injury, should anything untoward happen to Abraham, the Robins could potentially be left short of firepower.

    SCOTT HOGAN (Brentford)

Brentford's top scorer is attracting a good deal of interest, both in the Premier League and Championship. Bees manager Dean Smith does not want to lose his first-choice centre forward, but recent history suggests the Bees are always prepared to listen to realistic offers for their players.

Of course, someone like Hogan would represent an expensive option for City, who tried and failed to lure Andre Gray from Griffin Park before losing out to Burnley in the summer of 2015.

Hogan is proven at the level, knows where the back of the net is and could be ideal as a long-term option after Tammy Abraham returns to Chelsea.

    JEFF REINE-ADELAIDE (Arsenal)

Described as "something special" by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, the teenage winger is being touted as a first team player of the future at Arsenal.

The French youth international, 18, has impressed with his pace and dribbling skills since moving to England from Lens, the club that sold Taylor Moore to City last summer.

He featured in Arsenal's 4-0 EFL Cup triumph at Nottinmgham Forest earlier this season, but first team opportunities have been few and far between for the youngster, who might benefit from a loan spell in the Championship.

City have done such a good job with Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham, that Arsenal might just be tempted to entrust one of their brightest rising stars to the care of Lee Johnson.

    YACINE BAMMOU (Nantes)

City pushed hard in a bid to lure Moroccan striker Bammou from French top-flight club Nantes in the summer. A proposed deal fell through at the eleventh hour on transfer deadline day, but the Robins could come back in for the 24-year-old in January.

Standing at 6ft 2in, he has the physique to cope with the physical demands of playing in the Championship and is at an age where he needs to be playing first team football on a regular basis.

Capped three times by Morocco, Bammou has a reputation as a player who can create and take chances. He could be available for a permanent transfer, although a loan option might be preferable in the short-term.

    JEAN-KEVIN AUGUSTIN (Paris St Germain)

Having travelled to Belfast to watch France Under-21s play Northern Ireland in a European Championship qualifier last week, Lee Johnson cannot fail to have been impressed by Jean-Kevin Augustin. The 19-year-old Paris St Germain striker made quite an impact, scoring twice in the first half at Windsor Park as the French cruised to a comfortable 3-0 success.

Capped at every level from Under-16 to Under-21 by France, Augustin is highly-rated by Paris St Germain boss Unai Emery and appears to have a bright future. But first team opportunities have been few and far between for the 5ft 9in speedster, who scored two goals in 14 outings last season.

He has featured just once in the senior team this term and could be available for a window to window loan in January.

    DANIEL CROWLEY (Arsenal)

Daniel Crowley has been touted for big things already in his young career, though a loan spell with Barnsley recently ended in ambiguous circumstances.

However, the former Aston Villa schoolboy has been compared to teammate Jack Wilshere, boasting a gift on the ball not often seen in English players.

While his slight frame would not make him a natural fit in the Championship, the 18-year old is robust enough in his graft and guile to boss a midfield, as proved during his last spell in Yorkshire. Lee Johnson is an admirer, having Taken Crowley on loan during his time in charge of Barnsley.

I see some interesting prospects in this bunch and yet the Engvall situation concerns me because we clearly bought damaged goods, or did he get injured whilst at City? If he came with a damaged property label then we goofed, and I wonder if we have any comeback on his previous employer for misrepresentation?

My big concern Mike is we have been told he injured, then we are told he is not fit.
How long does it take a 20 year old in his prime to get fit:steam::steam::steam:

Cardiff played players on Friday that had not kicked a ball in anger, they certainly looked class, one being the MOM.

    Something not quite right there.

I'm not a big fan of playing one up top,Tammy needs a player alongside him.

If NW can find players who are out of contact, then LJ and his team should be able to.
For me Wilbs is not the answer any longer,he did us proud, but we need new blood.
