I think we should start forcing all players to run these injuries off - we pay them large sums of money and the least we should be able to expect is that they are available during the course of their contracts. They can recover when they retire - after all they don't need to work another day in their lives on the salaries they are being paid.
I also think we should build a small pit at one end of the ground into which any players too injured to continue are placed at half-time and then BRS dressed up in a gladiator outfit with his Kukri knife ritually slaughters them as half-time entertainment. He would need to be handicapped in some way - if they can escape before the 2nd half starts they should be considered fit to continue.
This would be far better than that usual sxit half-time entertainment they have with two fat blokes in those big ballooons racing down the pitch. If Wonga complain that they are losing an advertising opportunity they can be invited to tattoo a large Wonga logo on BRS's back.

Maybe this a new stumbling block; Ashley's new contracts are all pay as you play, the football equivalent of zero hours.

Fans forum meeting next week's going to be fun.

To be fair Lascelles & Darlow are new signings, as is De Jong really given how little he played. People shouldn't under estimate just how good De Jong is.

Our squad isn't as bad as some say.

Krul, Darlow, Elliott & Woodman is top 8 depth.

Janmaat, Colo, Saylor, New CB, Lascelles, Dummett & Haidara is good enough for top half provided the CB is a class act (hopefully Matip).

Cabella, Sissoko, Colback, Abeid, Tiote, Anita, De Jong, Aarons is easily a top half pool of midfielders. Maybe one wide player needed.

Cisse, Riviere, Perez, Armstrong - we're short and need two strikers.

We're only four players away a competitive squad IMO.

Agree with everything except the defence.

Colo, Saylor, New CB and Lascelles is NOT good enough for CB cover/depth.

Saylor? I've rarely seen a worse case of sick note! He can't put a stretch of games together, and he aint worth the wages he's likely getting.

I'd seriously rather have Willo as back up rather than Saylor. At least Willo can be relied upon for wages and it's not his fault he's had to be relied upon for as many games at first choice as he has because we settled for him instead of buying a new defender.

Willo could be a uselful cover, as well as probably accepting less wages and providing a much better aerial presence at the back.

I'm willing to give Colo a chance next season, but I don't have faith that he'll return to his best. Laceless is untested at this level.

We need 2 CB's AT LEAST.

Marveux is back from his loan spell as well, so that's No 6

We also have the likes of Vukic, Ferguson etc coming back from their Rangers loan spell so our squad suddenly looks better already !

Who says we need to spend money <whistles>

Seriously that defence is woeful. Even the midfield is borderline. You have to remember there are some strong sides now outside the top 6. That's without getting into what the are now investing on top. Striker wise we're pretty poor of course.

The first and most pressing priority bar none is the defence though. We have had the same defence for 5 years. It has proven time and time again it lacks quality. We are a minimum of 6 players away from the top half for me. 3 of those need to be defenders. We need at least one midfield. Two strikers.

Regardless of coaching/management, it wasn't a top 10 side last season, it was some way off. It can't suddenly become one on what might be. Janmaat is the only top 10 quality defender there. None of the rest would get in the top 10 sides. Sissoko and Aarons would get into a few top 10 sides. SDJ - Maybe if he is fit but its just another 'if'. Then you have Perez.

Krul of goalkeepers would be a push to get in a top 10 side. Southampton have Forster. Stoke have Begovic. He could rival Speroni and Fabianski, on his best form maybe better. However his form has been poor for 2-3 seasons. Its another 'if'. The rest wouldn't get a game for 95-100% of clubs. Darlow couldn't get in the Forest side. I think he might qualify as better back up than some. Like Hennessey for example.

I think you overrate our squad depth and quality. I also think you underestimate other sides and the business they will do.

As it stands, our reserve right back is Jamie Sterry, our first choice CB is either 34 year old Colo who had a rubbish season, or Willo/Saylor who both had worse seasons. One CB is a kind of cost-cutting mistake that has been consistently made. We all have to accept that either Dummett or Haidara will be first choice left back, again at best lower part of the table - as above, GCB, I don't get how you think we're one CB away from a top-10 defence. It was the worst in the league last year, how does one NEW CB, presumably from Ligue One (the former home of the woeful yet highly-rated Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and probably worse yet even higher-regarded Liverpool CB Sakho) fix the issues?

In midfield, you are pinning a lot of optimism on Tiote, Sissoko, Cabella, Aarons and Anita fulfilling potential and SDJ staying fit. They have each shown promise, of course, and each have talent but they've got to do it consistently to stand a chance of getting us into the top 10. Matches aren't won on paper. The overlooked Abeid needs to step up and really only Colback shows enough to be considered "top 10 easily".

Strikers are the same story - Cisse needs to be consistent, Perez/Arma need to live up to early potential. Riviere is hopeless and if you're not even naming the likes of Gouffran, Sammy or Obertan than Riviere's on that list.

We can't buy a new team, it's not possible, and it's tiresome going over and over the lack of activity. Realistically I can only see the club forking out for a CB, a wide player and a centre forward. I can also envisage us moving Willo, Obertan and Cisse on.

If anyone thinks I'm unfair to the likes of Colo, Saylor etc, see below for other defences:

Everton: CB: Stones/Jagielka West Ham: CB Reid/Collins/Tomkins/Kouyate Southampton: CB: Fonte/Alderschied Palace: CB Hangeland/Dann Stoke: Shawcross/Muniesa/Wollscheid Swansea: CB: Amat/Fernandez/Williams

I'm not sure I'd take our centre backs over any of that lot bar maybe Colo over the Palace lads. Then again I'd probably prefer Dann on all known form for the last 3 years. Saints have lost the Belgium lad but you have to assume they will do something about it. Even the likes of West Brom, Sunderland, Villa have individuals who are better than we have. Left backs is not even worth posting. You're talking about the likes of Baines, Cresswell, Pieters, Bertrand up against Dummett or ****ing Haidara? Sorry but unless you are mad as *****ose, you are taking the other choices over those two.

Don't get me wrong the sum total because of the likes of an in form Sissoko or Aarons, Colback, Abeid, Perez makes us well able to compete. I just think on overall quality we are way behind these clubs and that will tell (and has) over a season. If we add 6 good quality players, add in the new coaching team, maybe a better fitness outlook then it becomes a different discussion.

    Indeed.
Forgot about Marv and then Darlow and Lascelles.
That's 8 new signings plus a more experienced Haris and Fergie.
So 10 faces that who didn't figure much under Carver.
    Things aint that bad really.

On a serious note, if we sell no one else we will at least need to replace as a bare minimum:

    1- Santon
    2- Raylor
    3- Jonas

    Those 3 were first teamers.

I'd be happy with a top striker (Austin), a Midfielder (Thauvin) and a top CB (Joel Matip).

If Mike get's those three in and we sell no one good (happy for Sammy to be released and for Riviere to go though).. our squad will be much better.. fact.

At to that one or two loanees (eg Van Ginkel) too and we look decent.

I also think that the reason SM was appointed is that he is likely to get the best out of the youngsters and speed up some of their development. Think Roberts as a likely breakthrough next year....

I never change my stance. Its always legs apart, little wiggle of the arse, eyes down the targetline, look back to balls, look back towards the target, look back towards the balls, FOCUS, then gobble like fcuk!!!! <party>

If we got 5 in, my depravity knows no bounds.. Although I do not know why it always has to be me to take one for this fcuking team, seems a bit unfair! Shall we not share the love??
