Cook wins another toss and his side make a good start, currently 136-1. England seem to have found another one for the future in Jennings, who is 67 not out at the moment. He and Hameed might be long-term opening partners once Cook decides to call it a day. England, scoring at 3.6 an over, really need a big first innings total this time to put some pressure on India.
288-5 at close makes it just about England's day, I would say. There's quite a bit of turn already and it's not going to get any easier. Something over 400 would put England in a decent position.
If offered 288/5 before play started would probably have taken that and said that England had quite a decent day, but when you've been 230/2 it does feel a bit disappointing.....I blame Michael Vaughan as he said at tea that India needed to win the last session and they did......commentators mockers Looks like England have found the next generation of openers on this tour, Hameed and Jennings could be around for years...... 1st session tomorrow likely to be crucial...
A disappointing final session, handed back the initiative to India. We need another lower order rally to make the most of this wicket...
Decent first innings total but bowlers have struggled and India are handily placed at close 161/1. Hopefully the spinners will bowl with more control tomorrow and apply pressure on the Indian batmen. Match is nicely balanced......
Again a bit disappointing, 400 was really a minimum score batting first on this track and India's batsmen showing the application needed to make a proper score on it. I think if they get a first innings lead on us we could struggle to set them a total to defend...
Match swinging one way then the other, India's morning but an England comeback after lunch, Joe Root with a couple of wickets evens things up. Kohli is still there and the wicket is turning...
Interesting moment this morning when Cook left the field and Root took over as captain. He promptly brought himself on to bowl and took a couple of wickets! Much better bowling from England today sees India 364-7. Nothing in it.
From 307-6 we've let them off the hook, at 451-7 India now well placed to post 500+. They only need a draw to win the series but will surely have enough in hand to win this match. Put simply India have better spin bowlers and key batsmen who play spin better than the English batsmen, that is the winning difference on these type of pitches...
Woakes and Stokes played for their ability with the bat. Batty was less than impressive last time out and Root made a difference when he came on. Sad truth is none of our spinners are top-drawer...
