Proposals to expand the Qatar 2022 World Cup from 32 to 48 teams could require a new vote if additional host countries are needed to stage games. Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin says any plan by the sport's global governing body Fifa to add 16 extra teams to the competition could create "many problems". Fifa president Gianni Infantino has floated the prospect of an expanded tournament in recent weeks. The decision has already been taken to expand the tournament in 2026, when it will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico, and Infantino is now considering doing the same for 2022.
12x4 would make more sense with the best third placed sides going through so everyone has a chance going into their final game. It was an unexpected positive of the Euros. Obviously a better idea is not to have a load more dross at the tournament but it’s those countries that you depend on for votes.
Yeah I wasn't keen on the third place teams going through especially as one went on to win it. I wish they'd just leave it as it is tbh, won't be many more single hosts.
Don't give a flying flip about any world cup that happens in qatar. Wish and hope more people think the same.
Anyway, didn't they say at one point that they would look for a joint host if they brought 48 team WC forward to '22?
