just read in evening news that tettey has been told by our manager that he wants to play a 4231 formation. is he not watching when we play 1 up front we are rubbish we need 2 strikers up front. when he has put 1 up front in pre-season and first game we are no good we changed to 2 up front for the qpr game we played great so why does he still want to play 1 up front is he mad. does he watch the games properly.
Lambert went 1 up top and it got us point, particularly away, why not now? I agree I like 2 up front, particularly at home where I feel you have to always be positive, but it could be a foramtion that just hasn't shown it's true quality yet. We've got options for pretty much every type of formation so I wouldn't worry, we're flexible.
New players, Tettey in particular, will make that a flexible formation. There should be plenty of support from 'midfield' for the 'lone' striker. It's not my favoured formation, but I think we should look better with it now than we would have done before.
it actually is my favourite formation, although it hasn't been for us in the past because we didn't quite seem to have the players to do it. Hopefully Tettey can show us something, and with Howson/Snodgrass/Butterfield/Wessi as the flair player in the hole we should do well. I'm glad to see it being considered.
Tettey has just been on SKY and basically said he won't be going straight into the team. He doesn't think he's fit yet for the Prem and the training at NCFC is not as structured as in France. He said our training is based on playing not on possession of the ball. Whatever that means. I hope we do play 2 up front today. Spurs have lost their real flair man in the middle. Dembele is good but not Modric. I think we can compete in the middle with 4. But I think CH knows best.
We played 2 up top against Scunny and were awful - does that prove anything? Like all managers CH and his staff watch replays of games numerous times in order to come to their conclusions. He has decided on his formation and bought players to fit into it - too late to do anything about it now. Amazing how one minute CH is a brilliant Manager and an ideal replacement for Lambert and the next he is a madman who doesn't watch games properly!!!!
The midfield need to get their act together if we play this formation and I mean big time no going missing no misplaced passes. I've stuck up for the midfield a lot and in my opinion it's our strongest area but if we play a loan striker then need to support whoever it is and not go missing or sit too deep, I know their capable of playing brilliantly and I'm sure they will if they give it 100%.
Fully agree. That was why we scored so many under Lambert - when we attacked there were often 2 or 3 midfielders in the box with our strikers which then gave the strikers time and space to do their job. Unfortunately that was also the reason we conceded so many. Now we have a specialised holding midfielder perhaps CH will feel confident enough to let the other midfielders attack.
