Champions League Contenders Man Utd Chelsea Man City Arsenal Tottenham Home- 2 points Away- 1 point Europa League Contenders Liverpool Everton Home- 3 points Away- 1 point Midtable Fulham Sunderland West Brom Newcastle Stoke Bolton Home- 8 points Away- 5 points Relegation Candidates Aston Villa Blackburn Wigan Wolverhampton QPR Swansea Home- 13 points Away- 7 points I think when you break it down like this 40 points will surely be possible?
I think we know it's not going to work out like that, one day we may be beating Arsenal the next day losing to Wigan at home!
Got to say supporting Newcastle last year I looked at it and thought there was 11 very winnable home games, 5 of which were in the first 6 home games we won 1 of them and were sitting 8th. Having won at Arsenal and Everton. So u can never tell what to expect.
Good point cbrad, Norwich beat Man U at home last time in premier which probably wasn't factored into my pre-season predictions! Mind you, I bet that on average Newcastle picked up more points against the poor teams than the good teams, so I do think there is some value in thinking about how 40 points might break down!
Slightly more against teams in the bottom half, our home record against bottom half was W 3 D 3 L 3, if you'd said that this time last year, I'd have said that's us going back down.
Wow, me too! I guess if we end up midtable with £30million in the bank for Grant Holt I won't really care where the points have come from(!)
I'm not sure I would count Villa as relegation fodder but Newcastle, Fulham, Bolton or West Brom easily could be. We may only need 34/35 points as well. Last season was unusual. I think what i'm really saying is I can't make predictions.
Anyone from 7th downwards could be relegation fodder, can't see Everton improving and Fulham in 8th only stayed up by 10 points, so there's not a lot between being 7th and relegation. Therefore any of these could end up going down.
never know what lies ahead... lets just hope a couple teams make a extremely poor start like portsmouth did that season!
I reckon we could do worse than having our first game at home against someone mediocre, and losing! It's seen us alright in the last two seasons
Yeah but if it was one of the big 6 it would be expected, we want it to be the same as the past two seasons - not that I'm superstitious - touch wood
