An update on my blog. Please have a read - notice it is slightly more timely than last post! properpundit.blogspot.co.uk Enjoy (or not!)
For those that can't open links, and to stop it looking like someone just pushing their blog, her's the text. FEB 26 4 reasons why Allam wants to delay name change announcement - WARNING! Some speculation! Assuming The FA have upheld the original no change decision: 1) Sponsorship Any Premier League club worth their salt will be making hay while the sun shines at this time of the year in terms of sponsorship deals for the following season. It is very likely that Allam will have been pedalling the idea of the name changing, "fits with your brand" rubbish in initial discussions for next year. By delaying the announcement until the summer he may think he can secure some sponsorship that may otherwise be unavailable in the summer (especially if City were not to beat the drop). Although you would think most companies would have the sense to wait and see, the lure of being part of the Premier League brand can be quite intoxicating. 2) Embarrassment Many would argue that Allam is lacking in the emotion intelligence to feel embarrassment. However, what is clear is that he is a very proud man who would not want to endure the taunts of the City support for the rest of the season. Given his previous record, if they FA did announce the decision soon he would not be able to take it gracefully and would needle the KC support at a time when everybody needs to be pulling in the same direction. 3) Protecting his assets Why does Allam give a toss about everybody pulling in the same direction? Well he has 70million reasons if common belief is true. If the fans are supporting the team and not continuing the running battle against the name change City stand a better chance of staying up. Allam believes the name change is worth at least £1million immediately, well that is a mere drop compared to the new Premier League TV deal. Give Allam the offer of the name change and Championship football or no name change and Premier League, even he would take the latter (you would hope!). He may want to sell, but he wants to sell the Premier League dream not the Championship. 4) He wants control of the situation If Allam is to lose the appeal, he will want it to slowly disappear into the background in order to lessen the blow for him in PR terms, delay it now, people assume its going to be a no and then when it does get announced nobody is shocked and fans have the summer to get over their smugness, all ready for the start of next season in the Premier League.
If you're going to blog, maybe do some research, like checking what sponsorship deals are up for renewal.
