Don't know for the rest of you, but that's quite a hard start for us and we've done alright. 2 away games in 4 days isn't easy, and Fulham always looked quite a hard test. We have..... * A fully fit McGoldrick to look forward to. * Henshall to potentially have a great season. Pleased he made his league debut on 80 tonight. He'll get more opportunities when Parr comes in I think. * Stewart / Hunt to come back in too. * Potentially a few more signings too before now and August 31. We've got the same points total as we did after 5 games last season too Anyway I don't need to say much about the Norwich game, but it sets us up nicely for Sat. COYB!
It's two away games and a decent start - while clearly I want us to win 46 from 46 this isn't going to happen so while it's unspectacular it's a solid start.
Westy we have played prob two of the worst teams in the div at the moment and only managed one point out of six, not good enough for a team looking for play offs this season, i honestly think with this current squad we will struggle to make top half!! Still time to add to it tho!!
Reading will be top 10 - they were missing their entire midfield and have the likes of Jamie Mackie and Anton Ferdinand to come in. I know we should have got a result there Warky I was there - fine margins define games. We missed a sitter, Reading created F all and the McGoldrick error happened. All in all it's not a bad start at all.
You just said it Westy! Reading had no midfield and yet we still fecking lost! Simply not good enough and mid table mediocrity awaits us again without some money being spent but since Evans has put locks on his wallet we have no chance! Like I have said I was at the Crawley game and we were worse than bloody awful.
Not saying Reading wont be there, hence the 'at the moment' comment, thats why we should have beaten them, because their squad wes decimated!! For me Mick played the wrong side but hey what do i know? leave it weighty!!!!
We were the same at Reading Warky both teams were crap but that's the way footy goes sometimes mate we deserved at least a point. I'm really hoping Jack Collison signs up, stays fit and runs the show.
I think in terms of points it's reasonable enough considering who we've played but there hasn't been many encouraging signs in terms of performance apart from defensively against Fulham. We'll do okay this season but it's gonna be a slog particularly if we keep signing players of the same ilk. Anyone see Taylor hit the crossbar at the weekend, looked like a bit of a livewire, we could do with a bit of that in our team just something abit different from solid. No Wordsworth on the bench either
Why can't we make a bold move and show real intent by getting Joniesta on a season long loan? But hey that would mean investment in players and as we all know Evans wants to do things on the cheap from now on.
I liked Johnny Williams he's a great player but we relied on him in an attacking sense, it annoyed me how our tactics with him in the side was give him the ball and hope he scores a screamer or wins a freekick for us. I'd like us to try and create stuff by passing and movement rather than set pieces or relying on individual brilliance
It's puts more pressure on both of us for Saturday.I think it might be cagey and we would probably take the draw.Grabban has a goal a game record to maintain.
I think a lot of us are 'suffering" from coming back down to reality with a bump from the pre-season optimism. The fact we haven't won in 3 games is concerning, another difficult game coming on Saturday and no real outstanding performances from anybody that we can point to as a shining light makes it easy to doubt we'll ever get three points again. Last night compounds it all because out of the month we probably all picked Birmingham as a relatively easy 3 points. But, Westy is right to point out the positives. From a relegated side, a usual play-off contender, and a championship away game (remember it took a last minute goal in November to get 3 points away for the first time last year) with a side depleted with injuries (McGoldrick and Stewart most significantly) 4 points is far from disastrous and in seasons gone by could have been far worse.
Thanks Mike. Footy may not be pretty but we have a few to come back, I think Parr will be a massive player for us and when hopefully that left side is Parr/ Stewart, we could look quite a tasty side. Anderson set up two last night, it's sorting out the left side that's desperate. Defence is decent, workrate is good, and we have a decent frontline. I'll stick in the positive camp.
