If Town can pull off the signings of Coppinger, Ellington, St Ledger and Kirkland then I think we have enough options to be getting on with. We could probably do with a right back too, but my XI would then consist of: Kirkland Ingimarsson St Ledger Delaney O'Connor Carson Hyam Leadbitter Coppinger Chopra Wickham On the bench we'd have options of Ellington, Scotland, Priskin, Murray, Peters, Edwards, Martin, Kennedy, Wight, ALB, so we do look short of CB and CM cover, but we are only four players away from having a decent looking XI. It does just highlight the problems we will face if we fail to sign that standard of player though.
Out of any position i would say Centre Midfield is the position we really need to look at, probably at least 2 decent players. We just haven't got the options there. everywhere else we are fine, not saying we can't improve but we certaining wouldn't be struggling.
Agree with guru, reinforcements for the midfield must be the priority now, i think we need to look for some creativity, managers keep saying we need the defensive midfeilder but hyam seemed to fit that role well at the beginning of last season, and either way i'd prefer we focus on looking to score goals not preventing the other team from scoring. Im all for having attacking wing backs so with the players acctually on our books GK:Fulop RB:Edwards CD: Ingimarsson CD : Delaney LB:O'Conner CM (with focus on defending): Hyam CM(slightly more attacking): Leadbitter RM/RW: Carson LM/LW: Martin ST:Chopra ST: Wickham
Lancs Can't agree with your team i'm afraid, i would prefer:- Loach Edwards/Peters Ingimarsson Sledger/Pearce Cresswell Carson Haroun Leadbitter Coppinger/Treacy Chopra Wickham Personally i think we need the 5 or 6 more that Jewell is after. Also I have a feeling that JWM has been on that transfer rumour site again, this sounds like one of his posts!! Ipswich has had a busy day today securing the services of nathan Ellington, James Coppinger(750,000) Faris Haroun(150,000) Scott loach(1.5mil) and freddy adu (subject to medical and contract length) Set to be announced throughout this week at the latest Friday watch this space ... It has to be him, come on JWM own up!!
GK:Fulop RB:Edwards CD: Ingimarsson CD : Delaney LB:O'Conner CM (with focus on defending): Hyam CM(slightly more attacking): Leadbitter RM/RW: Carson LM/LW: Martin ST:Chopra ST: Wickham No offence but that team has got relegation or close survival written all over it! We need quality in key areas and as we all know most of that team just aren't up to it!
GK Fulop CB Delaney CB Intheremyson CB StLedge RW Edwards LW Martin CM Leadbetter CM Healy ACM Dos Santos STR Chopra STR Wickham
3 Centre backs! That's interesting Crimson! Jewell has said that he likes to play 442 eventhough he played 451 even at home last season!
JWM Nothing to say in regards to my post mate? Sprung comes to mind,LOL!!! I have to say that there are a few strange team selections coming through, i'm quite surprised. I had toyed with having a midfield of, Treacy Carson Haroun Coppinger but we probably won't sign 3 midfielders. I think Carson could do well in CM, he is tenacious and also intellegent, ideal CM material me thinks!!
Crimson I don't think that midfield would dominate Sudbury Town!! I think we should get over the Dos Santos thing, it ain't gonna happen!!
Forgot all about Healy - he'll do for cover. We need a wideman - Martin / Edwards aren't up to it. Loach would be good but Kirkland's only 30 and is a Premier League quality keeper with another 5 or 6 years in him at least. Loach isn't going to come good for another few years, he has some holes in his game at the mo. Maybe he's someone we could sign next year when we go up as a long-term option.
Also gents, I'm not saying we don't need to sign other players - I'm saying those four would do as a bare minimum.
Maybe he's someone we could sign next year when we go up as a long-term option. ------------------------------------- I admire your optimism Hamps but we aren't going up next year. Too much surgery on the team is needed and it will take at least 3 transfer windows before we assemble a squad that will be properly equipped to gain promotion. Top 10 finish for us methinks!
Pessimistic view of things there i think JWM, but i agree the team i suggested (reminder: it was from the players on our books already, not the team i hope we start the season with) would at best get mid table and we need more quality, but as we keep finding out the on-paper teams mean nothing in the championship.
JWM If PJ gets the right players in then i think we have a damn good chance, as good as anyone else!! I think we will do well this season. Crimson TBH i can't see the likes of Healey and Martin playing much part this season, i'm not even sure that Leadbitter is the answer but will do for the time being.
Spanish we are all Ipswich fans and have been through the highs and lows. I have allowed myself to get carried away before only to watch our team fail to deliver time and time again. PJ is the right man and he will get it right but I honestly think that it will take more than 1 close season to sort out the shower of **** that he's been left with!
