As its a really boring time of year i thought i would start a little thread on what are the loudest roars for a goal either at Ninian Park or CCS. My 4 are. Number one. Brian Clark's winner against Real Madrid Number two. Shovel's winner against Leeds United in the Cup Number Three. Jay's goal against QPR in the 2 - 2 draw (CCS) Number Four. Nathan's winner against Man City in the Cup. Have Fun.
for me, Young's v Leeds is a stand out at NP along with Buchanan's 35 yd screamer v Swans back in 1980 (poss '81) at CCS, OG v Palace in semi final, Conway's added time winner v Pompey (a weird hug a stranger moment too - still not sure why) and who can forget Chops winner v Swans (there's something special about a last minute winner)
Can't argue with the above but for me it's: 1. Young goal against Leeds. 2. Chops last minute winner against the swans. 3. John Buchanan screamer against the swans 4. Andy Campbell against QPR (I know, it's not a "home" game but it was in Cardiff) would have been number 2 if at NP.
Brian Clark's header against Real Madrid. Brian Harris's equaliser against Hamburg. Greg Farrels second in a solo performance against Middlesborough. JFH against Wolves.
1. Scott Young v Leeds. 2. Jimmy Floyd v Wolves F.A. Cup. 3. Ross McCormack's last minute penalty v the jax. 4. Whitts goal v Barnsley 2011 2 - 2 draw. Absolutely sublime. Could easily pick more. Good thread.
im sure a few of these would make the top end of the roar meter
Peter Sayer against Tottenham. (I was there, in the canton stand right in line with the post) Buchannan against Swansea. (I was there) Young against Leeds. (I watched it recorded late the night it happened and woke the house up with a cheer of my own - in the dog house for days) Any time Phil Dwyer scored. 50 times for Cardiff home and away!
Sayer v Tottenham (obviously) 1977 Buchanan v Swansea 1980 Chops v the geese 2011 John Lewis v Charlton 1983
Now there's a blast from the past. We could do with a winger like him now. Looked a bit cumbersome, but could beat a man and had a sweet left peg. Very similar to Parry in looks, gait and stype actually. I had to look him up as I struggled to remember his name, but Colin Sullivan, left back had the crowd on its feet (we couldn't sit in those days anyway) against Burnly I think. Only scored one goal, but a 25 yard pile driver. A free kick on the righ side of the box, the ball was squared to Buchanan, the defence ran at him and he laid it back to Sullivan who blasted it in. There was a second or two of silence as everyone assimilated what they'd seen before the crowd went mad. One goal in 63 games, but what a goal and what a crowd reaction.
Cannot disagree about any of these but would like to add Doug Livermore v Hereford in front of 35,000 in 1976, all goals in the 1977 Cup Run (even though I didn't witness them I heard the roars on the radio), Gary Stevens v Newcastle, McCormack's late penalty v swansea, Bellamy's v Doncaster from 40 yards and how about as a variety the 2 penaty saves by Marchall and Heaton in the 2 semi finals!
