I may be reading into it a bit too much but 4-5-1 seems to be our formation from now on. JW said "At the moment, we are playing with three in midfield to give ourselves that bit of a security and we've still scored four goals in the last two games". Its working at the moment as not lost yet using this formation under JW and like he said we have scored 4 goals in these 2 games as well which is not bad going although it was against fellow strugglers aldershot and plymouth. do you think 4-5-1 will save us if we stick with this?
Dont like it at all, not the way to utilize the young lad who came in up front yesterday, we need goals and didnt create much in open play yesterday so two up front a must, dont think stringing five across the middle will be effective enough to stop the pressure on the defence and goals from being conceded, so we have to be effective up top, "dont cut your throat to spite your face" comes to mind.
i hope he is using 451 until his 'experienced' striker comes in. i dont like the 451 at home though. we have conceded too many this season and ward obviously thinks 451 will make us more secure and stop the goals being conceded. thats a good thing. as long as we can still score. gillingham coming up will be a big ask for us to defend in numbers and still score. see what happens.
With the lack of strikers i thought he has little choice. At least with five in midfield Hammer and Ani can both push up without leaving with no cover.
Ward loves 4-5-1, an infuriatingly negative brand of football, watch out for his infamous 2-7-1 formation! Ward = Draw.
Well I will take a few draws this season next season I fully expect long ball tactics and many a boring game, but if he can get us into the play offs or there abouts, I won't be too upset at that.
