Currently we play - 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 ---------Joelinton-----Wilson--------- ASM---Willock--Shelvey-----Almiron Lewis----Schar---Lascelles---Manquillo ------------------DUBZ----------------------- 1. Willock was at his best last season because he was playing on the counter in a team with a 5 man defence, 3 CM's and more attacking space/freedom. In a 4-4-2, he has a solidified role and has to be stuck to it. We're seeing the worst in him because this formation requires him to do things he's bang average or worse at. His work rate is good, but his defensive capabilities aren't great and he cannot tackle well. He has to be basically stay routed in that spot. He needs a formation that allows him to make more runs. 2. ASM is wasted as LM in a 4-4-2. Has to track back too often and provides 0 defensive cover for LEWIS. Pointless. It makes the whole 4-4-2 thing pointless because we're doing it to make up for a leaky defence, but ASM offers nothing defensively. He's also our best player and is wasted completely there. 3. Almiron - Is not a winger, and is basically there just to cover defence. If Almiron has any value it's more central. Also on the left side, not the right cutting in where is definitely useless. I'd suggest - ---------------Wilson------------- ---------ASM--------Joelinton--- -----Almiron--Shelvey--Willock- Lewis----Schar---Lascelles---Manquillo ------------------Dubz---------------- A) The 3 CM midfield will demand a lot more Almiron and Willock, but it gives them more freedom to make runs forward and back when needed. Rather than 4-4-2 where it's basically every man is stuck down to a position. If we're gonna play 4-4-2. B) Both Almiron and Willock have good stamina and are used to being in positions where they can get up and down in the pitch. They can both get forward and makes runs to support and attack, and both get back to support a defence. C) Almiron at LCM will give him a more central role that he trives on, and also puts him on the left to make better use of his stronger foot, because he's the living definition of a one footed player. He will also be close enough to Lewis to help him out if needed. D) Can easily turn into a 4-5-1 if needed, but be a 4-3-3 when it should be. If we're going to get anything from the next 4 games, we need to go forward and score, because leicester proved that our defence is ****, regardless of the formation we play. TL;DR - Wasting good attacking options to play them in more defensive roles to try and protect the defence is pointless, as leicester just proved. We don't have the players to play 4-4-2, we may do later, but for now, especially against top sides who WE WILL CONCEDE GOALS TO, we may as well just go forward.
I agree 100%. I would like to state that no one plays 4-4-2 anymore and the fact Howe has done so in a few games already is quite concerning.
The date is the 11th Feb 22 and Newcastle United prepare to take on Everton this weekend at SJP. This weeks match preparations have been slightly disrupted due to a NOT606 forum member known as Roly being arrested in a stalking incident with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe after the former Bournemouth manager spent over £350m in the transfer window to assemble a team consisting of Ter Stegen, Digne, Trippier, Botman, Ginter, Ramsey, Kamara, Dembele, Vlahovic and Icardi playing in his favoured 4-4-2 formation.

I'll raise you The date is the 11th Feb 22 and Newcastle United prepare to take on Everton this weekend at SJP. This weeks match preparations have been slightly disrupted due to a NOT606 forum member known as Roly being arrested in a botched murder incident with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe after the former Bournemouth manager spent over £35m in the transfer window to assemble a team consisting of Dubravka, manquillo, Jones (Phil), Lascelles, Ritchie, Almiron, Shelvey, Davies (Tom), Fraser, Gayle and Solanke in his favoured 4-4-2 formation. ASM - you can't play him in a 4-4-2. Drop him or drop one of the strikers to get a more defensive minded midfielder in to cover for him and then, for the love of anything you hold dear to you in life, **** Jonjo Shelvey off and by off I mean RIGHT off, then **** him off from there and then he can **** off some more.
I see no point leaving him out since his dick is in the throats of everyone who's ever managed him. I'd prefer Fernandez and Schar personally.
lol make Tash the manager, we can just change the formation after every single game and would never lose a match ever again. pro managers are dumb as ****, they should just have an account on here. We'd be top of the league.
442 doesn't work ANY day. 4-3-3 for 'gentler' games, 4-2-3-1 for harder matches, maybe even 5-3-2 for backs to the wall jobs. But - and I may have mentioned this before - 2 in CM is bafflingly archaic no matter how you spin it, doesn't suit our players or even the modern PL, it's just plain ****ing weird that Eddie is using the SAME tactic he used in his last job (when he got relegated).
Football has evolved in the last 5 years. Most top teams are starting to not actually have any strikers in the team. And a 4-5-1 formation to control possession turns to a 4-3-3 quickly in transition. All the players in the 6 non defenders are mobile fit players who can more or less slot in any position. Compare that to what we have. Shelvey - 90s style long range passes. Not now. Hayden - 90s style clogger. Can’t pass. Longstaff - no comment. Hendrick - wow ASM - not sure what he is really. Good on the eye. Miggy - not sure what he is either. Grafter. Fraser - no comment. Willock - Prob our most modern player. Wilson - old school CF. Dying breed. Joelinton - Would work in a modern formation. The problem really is a lack of player quality really.
At the risk of sounding thick because I know what your answer is going to be already . What is the difference between the 2 cm in a 4-2-3-1 and the 2 cm in a 4-4-2 in your view. Before you answer please don't tell me the ****ing player playing the number 10 role would drop back because they won't.
