Sorry really bored at work just thought I'd see what peoples thoughts are:

This is the formation I have the best results with on FM, only with NUFC though any other club it falls apart and I inevitably get the sack but it got me thinking (a dangerous game).

With the players we have currently, the ones people mainly want to see shipped out (haven't seen anyone sticking up for Obertan, Marveux or Gouffran recently) and the fact we haven't been linked with to many wide players I think this could be a formation that could be utilised this season.

With our lack of depth/**** players who play out wide and our inability to put in a telling cross in recent season I think three CM's could be the way to go and let the wing backs get forward and get the crosses in while having the added bonus of 2 up top and a link man just behind them as in my mind we seem better and getting at teams through the middle.

I guess you could call it a 4-4-2 Narrow Diamond but would anyone be in favour of scrapping the wingers and battering through the middle or would it just be me?

Pick your own back 4 but I would like to see how:
    --Sissoko-Tiote-Colback--
    ---------Gini/De Jong-------
    --------Mitrovic-Cisse-------

could work together with Tiote sitting while we go forward and Sissoko and Colback helping out their respective full backs in the defensive third.

Good potential tactic... Nice to have viable options. Hoping we sign a winger or two though!

Not quite right for me. Understand the principal but we then have no attacking threats on either wing, and both strikers want service. You can't really play someone in a hole if you've got two up top. I also worry we have nothing wide right. I wonder if we could become 3-5-2 exponents? Bear with me....

I mean, we have options - Wijnaldum/Sissoko right, SDJ hole, Cisse/Mitrovic up top. Janmaat in defence, Sissoko wide right. Lot of choice on the bench. Just an idea.

I theory could work. In practise every team would murder us down the left hand side.

You mean like they did for over half a season last year? How dare you bring fact into this conversation.

I want to see a bit of width so we are supplying crosses for Mitro, Sissoko and Gini in the box with the two midfielders arriving late. We also have enough in midfield to condense play and play with a high tempo, quick closing down by the two midfielders, with colback sitting behind slightly just picking anything loose.

If Austin was signed, I'd be inclined to play 442 with him and mitro up front and then just try and get the ball forward as much as possible and see what sticks.

Could see us going with 3 at the back to be honest but i genuinely believe Colo is off which will mean we will see a lot more of Willo than we want to this season and if he is playing it won't matter how much possession football we practice, the ball will end up going long to the front men. Not against going long, wouldn't be overly pleased but with Mitrovic knocking balls down to an AM and Cisse/other striker running in behind it could work

Would love to play with three at the back but don't think we will, or even could.

    Krul

    Janmaat - Mbemba - Colo / ? - Haidara

    Colback - Wijnaldum

Sissoko - De Jong - Cabella

    Mitrovic

Imagine it would be loose with the midfield players swapping positions as they desire

    Darlow
    Taylor
    Lascelles
    Tiote
    Anita
    Aarons
    Perez
