Putting aside differences about the dutch quiff and just considering what might suit LVG's approach, wouldnt it be more successful playing 4-4-2 ?? Firstly 1 striker up front means we're creating fewer chances and also not troubling defences. Secondly he clearly likes his wide players so why not have proper wing play. Thirdly a front 2 will pull defences while the 2 midfielders will have more options - either through the middle or out wide. I also think Schneiderlin will be the ideal box to box midfielder. It also means we can rotate Carrick and Schweinsteiger better. The only two flaws I can see are the RW position and whether Mata can play in a 4 man midfield. My answer is that I think Mata has proved to be very versatile and can play that midfield role next to Schneid, and lets not forget we would have Herrera as an alternative. I'm willing to give Young a go on the RW bcos in a 4-4-2 bcos he would stand a much better chance of being effective there...both in terms of pace and the options he'll have in midfield and up front. Finally, it shows intent and a bit of balls. That's not a dig at LVG but maybe he needs to show that intent.
Can't hurt. Were not getting much luck from the 4321 just now so a change might give the team a boost. Even 433, a proper one would be welcomed. Depending on personnel of course.
Just to add to the point. I heard earlier, Leicester have conceded almost same number of goals as they did at this point last season. Playing 4-4-2 does have its advantages. Attacking football wins the day. Btw before anyone says, I am sure our back 4 would concede less.
this formation 4231 may work facing good sides, but with most of teams we need more players upfront, and 442 fit the bill
4 - 4 - 2 If I'm not mistaken , historically this has been our most successful formation. It also seems to be returning in many of the top flight European sides, so woorth a go for a few games at least...................so he won't do it, guaranteed.
I'd love to see us play 4 4 2 but we don't have the wingers at the moment unfortunately and it would leave a couple of players, namely Mata and Herrera, out in the cold as I don't see where they'd play as neither is really a winger. For now I think 4 2 3 1 best suits the players, but that is on the proviso that Herrera is one of the 2 and Mata is in the middle of the 3, in my opinion. 4 3 3 is good too.
