Sam Baldock: Eyes improved goal return.

The former West Ham forward scored 26 times in 2013/14 despite the Robins being in a relegation battle for the bulk of the campaign.

And with manager Steve Cotterill having added the likes of Aaron Wilbraham and Luke Freeman to his squad, Baldock is targeting another goal-laden campaign.

"I think improvement has got to be the key now," he told Press Association Sport. "I scored 26 last season which I was pleased with but I thought I could have scored a lot more as well.

"I think I've got to improve on that tally and hopefully I can hit the ground running.

"The quality of the players we have bought in are a lot better than I've had in the last couple of years to create for me.

"The manager wanted to improve the squad and he has definitely done that. There is competition for places and no-one can pick that teamsheet.

"We've got some real quality and we should have a strong season."

Cotterill's first summer at Ashton Gate also saw the former Cheltenham boss sign the likes of Korey Smith and Luke Ayling and his new-look team's fine pre-season included a victory over the Botswana national team.

Their two-week African adventure also included a safari and some valuable team bonding time which Baldock believes has worked wonders.

"That trip has made us come together more than anything else," he explained.

"We were out of our comfort zones, as no one had ever been to the places we had been to.

"That really brought us together and made us a tight-knit group, so I'm thinking we are going to be fighting for each other on the pitch as well."

Those words strongly indicate we will be seeing Baldock ALL season :)

I hope he gets 30+ goals! Will bode well for a promotion push and will do his confidence the world of good should we get promoted. Also 14 goals will see him have 50 Bristol City goals. Plus if he scores 30 he will become our 15th all time goal scorer with 66!

Go for it Sammy! We're all behind you :)

Looks like my prediction that we had seen the last of him has thankfully been proved wrong. This is the first time all summer that I feel confident that he is going to stay. (So that means he will probably leave tomorrow <yikes>)

One of the most positive things I have heard from Bristol City in a very long time and I also think it is the measure of the man. Let's just hope that his personal ambitions came true for him and us and that he goes on to be a City favourite for many years to come.
