Freeman on the left (he is a goal scoring winger we tried to convert) Kodjia in the middle, Agard on the right (scored most of his goals on the right for Rotherham we tried to convert him) Proper back four, Ayling, Flint, Baker, Bryan. Midfield Smith, Reid, Robinson (he is a ball player and creative when given game time, just behind Kodjia. Keep the ball on the deck, pass the ball out from the back, no 40 yard hoofs. Job done (for now).
Except for the obvious flaws - Bryan is not a LB, Freeman cannot hit a barn door with a Banjo right now!!!!
Williams is out of form. He is more of a LB than a wing back in this league. Freeman will get his confidence back if he is played in the right position. We need to start putting more of our chances away and will achieve this by playing on the deck not booting the ball up in the air. Having more movement up front will mean that opposing teams will not be able to put 2 defenders on Kodjia and if they do it will create space for Freeman and Agard both of whom have scored goals playing in this formation. I think that those three could interchange to pull teams apart.
Personally I don't think it's the formation - everyone seems to think it's going to be the answer to all the questions We have 3 or 4 players (like Freeman) out of form - confidence starting to drain - this is the problem
We have not got a large squad to drop every player who is down on confidence at the moment. However with some players its not just confidence but ability to play at this level. When things are not going well a change of shape can often bring a change in fortune. If we carry on doing the same thing that has not yielded the results, then we cannot be surprised that it continues to yield the same result. We are where we are because we are not scoring enough goals and giving the ball away in key areas, whilst defending in a dis organised fashion. I do not care what SC says, we do not have enough quality to play a 3-5-2 system in this league. We need to work with what we have got, find a better shape that the players are happy with and start planning for a Jan recruitment drive.
