Morrison signed today, signing a 3 year deal. Wiggins signed for 3 years. Ditto Stephens, ditto Green, Hayes, Hollands. Sullivan, Evina and Taylor signed for 2 years. Don't know about Alonso, is this 1 year only? 3 seems to be the magic number in terms of contract lengths, with all the players on a fee on 3 year deals, plus several of the frees. At our level, I can't imagine many longer contracts being issued by other clubs...
Chris Powell aiming for the future I guess. None of them seem to be on high salaries, so if the worst come to the worst and we stay in this league for three years (ignoring the worst case scenario of another relegation), then we should still be able to maintain our squad financially, whilst if we get promoted, it leaves room for more cash to be spent to help keep us up. Alonso's contract length seems to have been kept secret, so I assume he is either on a one-year contract, or perhaps some sort of short term contract up until Christmas to allow him to prove his fitness etc.
at least we won't be heading into 2012 with the ridiculous situation we have found ourselves in the last 2 seasons that most of the squad were out of contract including key 1st team players
Bradley Wright-Phillips is the one exception, I recall when he signed in January, that it was only a 1 1/2 year contract
yes BWP would be out of contract, I expect the board will see if he remains injury free and then possibly offer him a new deal about midway through the season
That was exactly my thought cafc4ever when we signed him! (Although at that point I had rather hoped we would have got promoted last season). I remember any time we would face Southampton and I seen 'Bradley Wright-Phillips' on the team sheet I would breath a huge sigh of relief
I don't rate him at all to be honest, but thats more than I rate most people that played for us last year!
I don't rate him as a player no, not in the technical/physical sense, but he pops out of nowhere to score goals. He'd probably have the same effect on the match if he sat in the corner of the East Stand on the phone to his nanny, as long as he popped onto the pitch in the last minute and scored.
