www.sunderlandecho.com top story 26/4/12, absolute tragedy, heartbreaking story, shame on the truck driver, may they all rest in peace
Sad indeed but I would not personally be that quick to jump on the truck drivers case, being question on suspicion seems the norm and I doubt he is sitting laughing, there but for the grace of god springs to mind.
see your point syd and if he's not to blame i'd apologise like a shot, whatever the cause it's a tragic story, their family must be going through hell, a living nightmare, my god, i couldn't even imagine the thought of what they're going through, how would you ever ever get over something like this?
Just because someone dies it is still not right to automatically arrest the surviving driver in suspicion. A full investigation should take part first
It seems to be the way now, the lorry or bus driver is arrested first then investigated second. Its tragic when someone dies but its also tragic for those who survive, or maybe I'm just to soft.
it's not against the law though, although i agree it should be, but like you say let's see what results the investigation brings, as it is the driver of the truck was immediately arrested on his release from hospital and kept overnight in police custody
Sorry but my dad is 77 and one of the best drivers I know. Not nervous or dithery at all. Age isn't the problem. Bad driving is.
Why should it be against the law to drive at any age, at 70 you have to reapply for a license and some older people are crap drivers, along with many 20 year olds.
touchy subject this, but once you get past 70, oh ****, what i'm trying to say is that you're probably more vunerable to strokes, heart attacks, blackouts etc, if this happens while you're driving it would be disastrous, once you've got past 70, oh **** i'm digging myself a hole, anyone over 70 please don't be offended it's just my opinion
I agree, however things change, well they are with me.I find myself driving a lot slower, not dawdling but I stick to the speed limits these days, always leave bigger gaps between me and the person in front. I don't know if I'm more sensible, more thoughtful or just slower but I know I am doing it. I, being 64 this year, can speak about older people and in most cases I think we know, I hope I know when its time to stop driving but I suppose my point is, we are all different so I am against a general, you are now to old.
Very sad indeed to see members of 3 generations of one family wiped out in such tragic circumstances....I don't think anyone should be apportioning blame without knowing what exactly has took place..
I think past 65 you should get a free re-test every year. There are plenty, like Cest's who are capable, but many more are ****ing lethal.
I am not expert on the law but it seems its now procedure to arrests and caution a surviving driver, does not imply guilt just safeguard in case there is guilt, I think but could be way out.
Syd it forms part of the investigation. They will be breathalysed as well. It's a tragedy though, awful.
