You won't get many agreeing but I'm assuming your point being that winning means we'll end up playing loads of extra cup games risking injuries, bans etc and possibly league game postponements further down the line meaning fixture congestion etc. There's plenty of time next season and future years to come for cup runs but this season the league should be the main focus in my opinion. Why push players to the limit risking injuries, fitness levels, bans etc when realistically it's only the Leasing Cup we may get to Wembley with? We all know how that turned out last season along with the final league position. Just how much did the extra 8 EFL Trophy games affect fitness and stamina later in the season along with the kick in the balls defeat at Wembley? After Wembley we got 11 points in the last 9 league games with just 3 wins. Given the first 2 games were wins then it was just 1 win in the last 7 games and just 5 points. We had 12 cup games last season so we played 58 games and after these coming 4 cup games it will be 8 extra cup games this season already by mid November and potentially 3 more after that in next rounds if we get through. Our main (****ing biggest ever for many years in fact surely?) priority this season is promotion no matter what and if it comes to sacrificing cup runs, is it really a bad thing to not give that much of a **** if we lose in the cups just for this season?
